UPDATE: It's done!! Pictures!

Yes its called Lap siding (?) and it was $21.95 a panel at Home Depot. It took three panels to build this 4 x 5 x 5 foot coop, so it was the most expensive part. All together the materials were about $265.

thanks Carla! Yes I can paint it straight away (well as soon as these awful rain storms are over!). And yes, the red seems to be hands down the winner in my informal poll.

Actually no! Although it is sort of modeled on the Ware chick-n-pen, which I had with my first coop, the chick-n-hutch. I didn't like the pen though, it was pretty rickety and too small, so my husband and I built this one a few months ago. It works pretty well, although of course now I wish I had made it at least a foot wider. Isn't that always the way though?

Yes, the run is actually open on the bottom but I put a layer loose roll of 1/2 hardware cloth underneath to keep critters from digging in. Then I cover the bottom with a couple of inches of bark chip mulch so the girls have a nice surface to walk on. It lasts a long time, requires almost no maintenance and doesn't get muddy!
