Sorry all, but I just need to vent!!! Not to mention, need to know if I am being petty...
Here's the situation.... Some of you know that my son is coming home today after being gone for four years and I made all these arrangements including ordering a cake to celebrate our birthdays and his welcome home. Well yesterday, I went to pick up the cake... [IMG] they did it wrong!!!!!!!! I specifically told them exactly what I wanted right down to crossing the "t's" and dotting the "i"... I have never ever had a problem with this bakery.... NEVER... and now on one of the most special days I have in my life... and they cant fallow directions, it was not at all like I wanted. So they offered to make me a new cake... and give me 2.00 off more off the cake... okay thats sounds great... lets do it.... OMG [IMG] :thun I decided to take my youngest to school so that she could go see the cake with me... (shes been so excited that "bubby" is coming home) MY 7 year old could have done a better job!!!!!!!!!!! It looked like CRAP!!!!!!! I would have rather taken the first one that they screwed up... I told the girl just how very unhappy I was and the lady that was helping me completley understood!!! Now they are calling in the head manager and making yet a third cake!!!!! All I wanted was purple and blue roses on the cake and the saying that I wanted on it which was not much... how dam hard is that???????? the first cake looked like absalutly beautiful... but no blue roses, the roses were all purple... no blue... purple border... and a mint green writing... it was really pretty... dont get me wrong... BUT, when you ask for something... shouldnt you get what you request???? And the second cake... OMG... like I said... my daughter could have done better... the writing sucked!!!!!!!! the roses were ugly!!!!!!! the border... :thun :thun :thun [IMG] So now, I have to wait even longer!!!!!!!! I have things to do... and honestly... it costs so much gas to keep running back and forth!!!!!!!! I live a good 20 minutes from town!! Now, I have to go all the way back out there... pick up the cake... then come all the way back home... then have to leave to go get my son... I dont even know if the cake will even be ready by the time I have to leave... [IMG] I am so upset!!!! Can someone tell me if I am just being petty... or am I justified??? I mean this is a very important day!!!!!! My sons 18th birthday was last month, and most of you know my 40th was last week... and we have not celebrated any of our birthdays together in 4 years... I just so wanted all of this to be special!!!!!! I am angry beyond belief, not to mention... the water works. I was so excited that my son was coming home so of course I could not sleep lastnight... I am running on about 3 hours sleep which does not help!!! My daughter looked at me when she was getting out of the car to go into school and said "momma, if you want me to come home early and decorate a cake I will". I told her thank you, that she can make a special one for "bubby" next week, that I have already paid for them to do the cake.
Okay... I feel a little better now after venting... On a better note... my son called this morning... "mom, I'm boarding the bus!" YEAHHHHHH
Thanks for listenting... I'm so fortunate to have chicky friends to talk too!!!!!! Maybe momma hen will be nice again today and give me another tripple yoker [IMG]

It feels good to vent! [IMG]
But now take a deep breath, everything will work out. Your son is coming home and that is what matters. I know you want his homecoming to be perfect but a cake is just a cake and no one will remember it tomorrow. [IMG]

I think you're just stressed. It is just a cake and the cake is not going to make your party special at all. It's your family being together that'll make it special. Don't worry about the cake, you're just going to eat it! [IMG]

Where has your son been for 4 years????

I'm so happy for you that your son is coming home! I understand completely I printed out picture of the cake I wanted made and even wrote down the colors and arrows pointing to the area where the colors were to go. It was my daughter 8th Birthday and she wanted a cake in the shape of a horses head and the colors to match her horse Finale. Now this cake was going to cost me $60 and was to serve 50 people. I called and spoke to these people at least 5 times to make sure they got it right. I even spoke to the owner of the bakery. OMG the day of her party I went to pick it up it was NOTHING and I mean nothing like the picture at all and all the colors were wrong. It wasn't even the colors I picked. They were oohing and aahing over it like it was a master piece and my husband was with me and he looked at me and said well go ahead say it. I told them it looked like )hit and was ugly as hell and it wasn't what I ordered. I ask them how could you not follow the picture I gave you and I called 5 times and you said you had it under control. I was so mad and they had the nerve to ask me if I was still going to take it. DUH! no I said I wouldn't take it if you gave it to me free and I walked out went to publix and got Sierra the horse cake they had with Spirit on it. LOL cost me $14.99.

No! You knew what you wanted and they screwed it up.
But, like some of the others said, it's only a cake and it's the special feelings of everyone being home together is what will make the day special.

Let's focus on that-and once he gets here-nothing else will matter.

side note--my daughter just turned 18 last month (july26) and me 41 (aug8) almost same as you two.

Thanks all, I have settled down a bit, I went for a visit to the chicken coop... OMG... they are such wonderful therapy!!! I have one called white feather (a golden laced polish with a single white feather in the back of her head) Both her and rosebud (aka rooroo) I guess felt my anxiety and came running at me and would not let me come in the house til I sat and petted them both!!! When I came in I called the bakery (phone rang while I was outside) back, and they said they would definatly have it done by 1:00 the manager is redoing it. I know it is only a cake... but not remembering it tomorrow is where some are wrong.. I take pics of EVERYTHING... and I do go back and look... BUT, you are all right when you say family matters the most and us being together is what is the important part!!!! I guess I lost sight of that in my "rage" so thank you for pointing that out to me!!!! As for my son, Everyone keeps asking me... and its hard to talk about... so I am just going to say..... he got into trouble and was in juvi, then a halfway house for over a year. I couldnt see him that often because either I did not have a car or was broken down, no gas money, 5 hour trip one way... or I was in school and always studying. He is the reason why I ended up going to Law School!!! The system sucks, they screwed him, and it was not even his fault!!! So I thought if I went back to school, just maybe I could make a difference if not in my sons life, maybe in another kids life so the same fate does not happen to another child!!! Now, he really wants to go to college and make something of himself and he too wants to try to clean up the judicial system and work with kids!!! He is all in all a good kid. Just a bobble in his life that he conqured!!!

Well, as they say... third times a charm... someone finally followed directions and the cake turned out beautiful!!!
    Sorry for the lighting...

Well, the day ended up with another big "issue" as I was leaving the farm (we live 1/2 mile off the main road) got almost to the road... and all of a sudden... I hear... POW...pssssss MY DAM TIRE WENT FLAT!!! I had to walk all the way back to the house to get DH... Then call the bus depot... and of course the phone was busy for about 10 minutes... I finally got through and left a message for my son.. then had to walk alll the way back up to the car... OMG was it hot... I was getting sick and felt like I was going to pass out... Well DH finally fixed the tire... and away I went ariving to pick up my son about 45 minutes late. But I got him!!!!! Yeah... My son is HOME!!!!! [IMG] [IMG]
I took a couple of pictures of all the kids, but unsure if I should post them... as I am very protective... and there are so many wierdos out there. I guess I will just have to think this one through! But after we finally got home... everything went perfect... we did end up staying at home for dinner tonight... I think we are going out tomorrow night for dinner... We were just all so tired and exhausted! Honestly I am just about ready to fall asleep... but I had to give an update...
Good night... and again thanks for letting me vent today and pulling me through!

The cake looks wonderful!! Sorry you had a flat tire, sounds like the way things go around here (especially for me, LOL) but you got to pick up your son and that's the main thing!! Sounds like you enjoyed your evening and if you get to out for dinner tomorrow night~ wishing you no more setbacks!!
    take care,
