the ameraucana are really easter eggers, which there really is no rhyme or reason to the colors. It will be fun to see how they turn out

I figured the EE thing- no way it's anything but an EE coming from a feed store, right?

So the coloring is really unpredictable even with experience? That's kind of fun, actually.

Thanks!

you might get a generalized idea....if the base color look brown, probably have a bit of brown when it matures, the white will probably have white w/black(my favorite) etc....but yes, I think it's lots of fun

and yes, the only place to get true ameraucana is a breeder

Calling all Blue or Green egg breeders in the NE Kansas area??!! Anyone?? I need a fix!!!

What can anyone tell me about D'uccles?? As I noted before, I think the gold one is possibly a roo, and I was thinking that could be okay, right in the middle of town due to the supposed quiet nature of a bantam cochin? Now I have the prospect of a potential D'uccle roo, and I haven't any real resource that says what kind of personality, vocal or not, etc.

Anyone?

I don't think it's a d'uccle, they have the same cheeks as the EE's and it doesn't seem that one does

Yeah - but look at those vulture hocks coming in...

maybe a Belgium booted bantam?

Here are some D'uccles at about 4-5 weeks old:

You are right about the lack of cheeks.

Well, he's definitely a roo, for anyone following the saga:

...and everyone who guesses Red Cochin is likely right- in my uneducated opinion. He's very sweet.

Here he is next to the black, and she's certainly a Black Cochin. She's softer than silk- you can barely tell when you're touching her! Very sweet!

I should have been taking growing photos, but this is as close to a progression as I'll get likely, on this thread.

This is the silver EE, who is now very clearly a cross-beak, but doing well- thanks to all the advice from BYC members:

Twiggy, the Polish formerly known as Phylis:

and the white EE, who has black spots as though she's been shoe-polished:

Thanks for looking!
