1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
She is a French Maran (Black) around 2 years old.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
I noticed she didn't seem as peppy as usual the past few weeks but I just figured it was the heat as summer gets warmer. I also noticed a few weeks ago her comb that has always been full and red and upright (except when molting and long winter days) just sort of fell over and has slowly turned pale. She comes out of the pen to free range around the yard but sort of mopes around with tail down. She is still eating and drinking but not with usual vigor. I noticed her rear end had some dried poop buildup so I grabbed her today to trim the dirty feathers off and she was super easy to catch (she is sort of wild so not usual) and she is very thin. She has always been a nice thick bird when I have held her. I checked her over for signs of mites/lice, nothing. Feet look good. Eyes are clear and no swelling. Crop feels full of liquid but not overly full. She is pooping. Not sure if she is still laying. I wormed all my hens with valbazen when they molted about 5 months ago. No heavy worm problem where I live.

UPDATE!!! I wormed her with Valbazen about 6 days ago and dosed her with 1/2 CC each day for 5 days of Tylosin. She just passed a bloody, smelly poop. Her rear end smells terrible still. Is this possibly Coccidiosis or a bad reaction to tylosin? Should I swap her to Corrid now? She is still about the same as she was when I first posted but now has bloody poop and even more lethargic. Please help!

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
About 3 weeks.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
No
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
No idea.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Lay Pellets 20% protein. Water. The girls also get leftovers from dinner like the pasta in the video when the dog doesn't get it all first.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Normal, but seems like it might smell more than usual. They flies were crazy when I was trimming the poopy feathers off. Her behind skin looks great. No sores.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
None
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Home treatment.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use

Blood in poop would indicate to me Coccidiosis. Coccidiosis is a parasitic infection of the intestinal tract, spread by droppings which get into feed/water via droppings, can be spread by birds, carrying it on your own clothing/shoes. Most birds carry some cocci in their sml intestines, only a problem when it becomes an overload. It is probably a strain of Cocci that your chickens are not immune to. Some symptoms of cocci are runny/watery poop(may or may not contain blood)fluffed feathers, lethargic, not eating/drinking properly. If symptoms match, purchase Corid(amprolium),dosage for Corid powder is 1/2 tsp per gallon of water, dosage for Corid liquid is 2 tsp per gallon of water. Treat ALL chickens for 5 days,do not give vitamins during treatment(interferes with medication)give vitamins after treatment. Also look up info for vent gleet, looks like she may have that.

Thank you for your help. I put Corid in the girls water yesterday. Sure hoping she pulls through. I will go out and check her for vent gleet as well. Thanks again. :)

I went out to check her when I got home today and found her on her side eyes closed. I picked her up and she just opened her eyes and made some little sounds. I went in to tell my husband we needed to put her out of her misery. As I was holding her she went into a seizure type thing and died. I'm sending her in for a necropsy. Over the last year and a half we have had 6 chickens die this way at different times. I hope the necropsy will tell us what is killing them so we can hopefully save the last 4 from this fate.

So sad, always devastating when a pet dies. My condolences, hopefully you will get some answers from the necropsy.

In case anyone has the same symptoms as this bird and nothing seems to help I wanted to post results. I sent my bird in for a necropsy and the results are that my flock has
Avian Lymphoid Leukosis. The doctor said all my birds are likely infected and it is just a matter of time that they will become riddled with tumors to the point that they die. We

have 4 chickens left from our flock of 12. We have had one or two birds get sick here and there over the last year or so and then no matter what we tried to do to heal them they

died. I wonder how they became infected. I purchased 6 chicks from a local feed store shipped in from a hatchery. I hatched the other 4 from eggs purchased off ebay. My

chickens have never been in contact with any other chickens. My husband says no more chickens after these die. Sad. My daughter will be heart broken when her best friend

hen passes away.
