Update on flooded house PAGE 2 @ bottom of page

Hurricane Ike dropped an enormous oak tree on the house 2 years ago and smashed one end of it. I know what you mean........
But I did get a really nice roof (35 squares tore off, redecked and put back on) and did it myself with the help of a guy from work named Gary and a homeless guy from the shelter named Larry. DH provided moral support, was the go-fer this, go-fer that, tossed bottles of water to us and made sandwiches. What a fantastic man.

Somehow, this seems worse, I guess because it is on the inside and it is all a mess.

Thank you Speckledhen for fixing my title spelling wreck. Our hot water heater blew out the bottom last year, but we got lucky and the water took a left turn and went out under the door into the garage. God takes care of crazy people and fools.

I have WHAT in my yard? :

Keep posting! Keep posting!!

When I start freaking about the workmen in our house - here again today at 830 telling me that everything in our attic was not supposed to be moved out of the rafters - it was supposed to be moved out of the room!! There is no way I can move all of that stuff and the stink bugs!

(Today I discovered that despite careful packaging there are now stink bugs in my wedding dress.)

Your situation is waaaaay worse than mine so you give me perspective!

Sorry to benefit from your misery!

Stinkbugs in your wedding dress???

That is sooooo funny!! What do you have workmen in your house for? To attack the killer stinkbugs?

The workmen are still dealing with our "soot incident".

When the house filled with smoke all of the stinkbugs migrated to the attic space! We have an unfinished room there that we use as storage. My wedding dress was in there.

As were many of my clothes. Now all chock full of stink bugs!

So workmen come to work on insulation and get grossed out by the stink bugs. Um, yeah.

Anyone want a buy a used size 2 wedding dress??? It's been de-stinkbugged!

Size 2? I think it might fit my left ankle nicely......

Last weekend DD and DSIL with our perfect grand daughter came to do more work on the house. They got the sheetrock walls up in 1 bedroom and 1 wall in the other bedroom. I taped 1 room, the stick on mesh kind. This weekend they stayed home and I took today-Saturday-off from the house. I got 500 pounds of feed and put it in the shed. I got a round bale for the horses, then I finished out the afternoon with 2 small burn piles of tree limbs on our 16 acres just outside the city limits. It has been a good day, ready to work on house again.

I didn't realize it, but the plumbers cut a hole in the wall behind the toilet in the hall bathroom so they could tie in the new pipes. My DH was ensconced comfortably on the toilet in the middle of the night this week when a big rat popped out of the hole in the wall. This huge monster with werewolf fangs three feet long then had the audacity to run across DH's feet. Oh, THIS woke him up.

He yelled, danced a sitting routine that "Dancing With The Stars" would be envious of, screaming the whole time. This scared and confused the rat, who tried to return to his hole in the wall. DH's lower intestinal tract completely evacuated-thank you Mister Rat.

DH and Mister Rat danced the Texas Two Step for several moments until the rat finally dodged stomping number 11 feet and scampered for the safety of his personal toilet potty room hole. My contribution was to sleep through the whole thing.

Enter the rat killer.

DH demanded that I get him a trap, so I did. He set it, only to have Mister Rat steal the bait without setting off the trap. I don't know why setting off the trap would be sooooo hard, DH was quite good at it, almost snapping his finger off. Several more times with various baits, Mister Rat ate very well. Finally DH smashed some soft cheese in the middle of the trap. We were watching TV when we heard the SNAP!!!! We ran to the bathroom to find Mister Rat with the trap snapper snapped in his middle. He was squirming around trying to get out. Quickly DH plopped a pot over the rat and trap. It is a kitchen pot with the handles broken off that he turned upside down under the light switch so our grand daughter can step on it to operate the light switch like a big girl. Sure enough, the rat got loose. The pot didn't fit completely over the trap, some of it stuck out. DH lifted up the pot a little until Mr Rat finally made a break for freedom, doing a little screaming of his own, EEEK EEEK EEEK! The rat stuck his head under the edge of the pot and DH squished him to death.

You sure it wasn't an Armadillo. Take a picture if it was. I've never seen one in TX that wasn't run over.

Be sure whoever does the taping and texture on the drywall knows what they're doing if you're doing it yourself. Looks a lot easier than it is.

Good for you and your DH on killing the monstor rat!!! Just never know what lives in the walls, etc. I just put some glue boards down in the attic as insurance against mice. I had to deal with flying squirrels up there... let me tell you... they are zero fun!!!!

Good idea to take some time off working on the house. That kind of work can really get to ya.

ROFL Sorry, but there will never be a second Mr. Rozzie. I'd rather eat ground glass...
