Well all those beautiful broccoli and beet greens in the back have now been eaten and there are only stubs hanging off the sides! I guess it was to be expected, but it happened much sooner than I thought. Time to restrict access to the raised beds...
uh oh! goats from what I understand can be trouble! My neighbor said she was scared that that goats were my next venture(it was actually bee's but than they said they were allergic so scrap that Idea!) anyways now I am thinking rabbits???????
Mine are trouble because they are mine. LOL, kidding. They can be a hand full. I need to put up a perimeter fence ($$$$$), some more internal fencing ($$$$$$), and build them a shelter with an attached run ($$$$$$$) in order to have my bases covered. They are fun though. We weren't really ready to get them. I was gathering information, reading books, ect. and I saw an add that a breeder had some Nubians for sale. I called, told them I wasn't ready to buy, but really wanted to see their set up and pick their brains about goat keeping. They were like "Sure, come on over!" They also let me know, that if I was set up with in a month or two, they would hold them for me if I really feel in love with a doe. I was like, gee thanks, probably not. So, load kids, and we're off. We get there and lets just say the image I had in my head did not fit the reality. Junk all over the pasture, the goat "shelter" looked like it was going to fall on them, really. Thenm, lo and behold the woman, from her house, brings out this days old baby that she's been "taking care" of in the house. Baby is weak, and sick, though the lady insisted otherwise, and as it turned out hadn't been let out to nurse its momma, or given a bottle for nearly 18 hours. That was all it took, lol, we ended up with Momma, Baby, and another Doe who had just lost twins and still had milk. The thinking was, we may not be set up, but we can sure do better than that! We took Baby off to the vet, had her treated for pneumonia, and vitimin defeciantcies, and except to go out with her momma every couple of hours, she lived in the house until she was strong enough to be with the others. Sooo, that was long, sorry. But that's why I have goats that free range and eat my, well, everything. Bye, Bye honey suckle,
that's a cool story, I will someday have some but I think I can wait until I have a bit more space for them. Something tells me the geese will be able to handle the lawn by themselves.
