Well I checked around the area (we live on 2 acres out in the middle of no where and there's only a dozen or so houses in the immediate area that could possibly have chickens) and sure enough, nobody had lost a chicken. So next I went to Grandma's house because they're old farm folks and I knew she used to have chickens so maybe she had a coop for me, but all she had was a bigger wire cage (which was better than the dog kennel he was in). Then I stopped, on a whim, at the guy down the road (about 2 miles) to ask if he was missing a chicken, which he wasn't, but it wasn't the same kind that he had anyway, and he told me if I couldn't keep her, that he would take her. So when hubby got home, we talked about it, and he said we are really not ready right now (but maybe in the near future) to have a few chickens. So we took the little bugger down to this nice man's house and he looked at her and right away said She's a He! (Apparently there were 2 little dots on his back legs that were the beginning of spurs.) So Pirate the Rooster has a new home. Mr. Nice Chicken Man also said that little Pirate was also pretty young, maybe not even a couple of months, let alone the 3 that some of you here thought. So he now has a great home in a VERY nice place. Very clean, tons of friends, nice big pen to roam around in, and a toasty warm barn to call his very own. I think it was a good decision.
I just wanted to thank you all for your help and suggestions. I will certainly keep this site bookmarked for when we start getting some chickens. You all were very friendly and caring and I do appreciate that in a forum! Thanks again!
