UPDATE: Puffed up pullet has died. What happened?

RIP my little baby!!! The best pet chicken ever!!!!
My deepest sympathies, sweet friend… ♥️😘
My heart is with you today; I’ll be following to see what you find out about your babygirl.
- Perhaps she will teach all of us something very important about this mystery condition...

May all of your wonderful memories with her comfort you!
~> RIP Beautiful Girl <~

So sorry for your loss. I have an English black orpington, just about the same age as yours, that had the same symptoms. My weather isn't as cold as yours and my girl over came them on her own. I never brought her inside, although I was ready to do so.
Your pic of her poop looks yellowish to me, which could be a sign of EYP.
That, and the shock to her system of the wide swings in temps may have done her in.

A lab necropsy is going to be more accurate, for sure. I did an autopsy before, but its not the most clear, your right. However, I did find out what was wrong, as Wyorp Rock helped me. Otherwise, I wouldn't of known. Sorry your girl passed. Its never easy.
Thank you! Was it you who had the assisted late night home necropsy, with pictures posted periodically and people weighing in? I remember reading through a thread like that not too long ago. I can't find it now. What did you find? I'm sorry my brain is in a fog right now and I can't remember.

Thank you! I will most certainly post updates, so that we all learn from this. It's so frustrating when you find so many threads posting about a problem, but they never follow up with an update on what happened... I will wrap this up, however it ends.

I got the vet's info but they are closed right now. Will call tomorrow about getting a necropsy.

I'm sorry about your pullet.
Getting a necropsy to get more information is a good idea.
Wrap the body in plastic and keep it refrigerated. If the vet is unable to do it for you, then contact your state lab.

Nope, I did the necropsy with Wyorp Rock. I did it via conversation, I didn't create a thread. I think you are thinking about @Weeg

I loved her thread too. It was really interesting to read through.

Glad to hear yours recovered! She would need to be laying to get EYP though, right? My pullet wasn't at POL yet (or even close, judging by her comb).

You are right. Now that you mentioned it, I remember that it was her thread. What did you find when you did your necropsy?

I didn't really find anything, but Wyorp Rock helped to point out the issues. It seems that her reproductive system was swollen, so she likely died from a reproductive issue. She was young too, barely a hen.
