Update: The baby is gone

There is some thin, flesh-colored foam tape you can get at Walmart or any drugstore. You'll find it in the same place as the band-aids, etc. Take two pieces of the tape, flatten the chicks foot out and spread it's toes and stick one piece to the bottom, making sure the toes are in place, but not as far as covering the heel. Then stick the other piece to the top and make sure the tape sticks to itself between the toes. Carefully trim the outside edges to keep the chick from tripping. (They will resemble duck feet.

) The tape has a strong enough adhesive to keep the foot flattened, but enough flexibility to allow the chick to walk on it without it being cumbersome. I've tried other splints, and this one worked the best for me. I liked it best because I didn't have to worry about the tape being too tight or coming loose. You can take the tape off after 4 or 5 days.

I lost the chick. I was going to go and find bandaids to fix the feet and when I came back it had some how flopped itself into the water dish and drowned. I feel so awful, it was so preventable and it was doing so well.

Note, I don't think you snipped off the yolk. You probably snipped off a greenish sack which is wastes. If you had snipped of the real yolk, it's yellow contents would have flowed out and the chick most likely wouldn't be looking cute in the pic.
