I have an Easter Egger,Lucy, that is almost 8 months old. All of the other hens (except for my one Silkie) are laying, including the two other Easter Eggers (Ethel & Esther), which were all hatched and delivered together in July. I expeced the Silkie not to be laying for a while, but why do you think Lucy isn't giving up the goods? I'm perplexed. Is it ever the case that a hen won't lay at all? Thanks for your input!

Lucy is the hen closest to the camera in this photo and pic was taken at 7 weeks old.

Yup. I have NEVER seen Lucy in a nesting box. I've seen every other hen in one, including my Silkie who doesn't lay yet. I can also tell by the number and color of eggs that I get. Lucy will lay blue ones and I get a maximum of 2 blue eggs per day and I've seen both of my other two EEs laying them (Ethel lays blue, slender eggs and Esther lays greyish-blue, fat, roundish eggs). So...what do you think?

HA! I have an easter egger that is a year a half old, and the only time the old biddy laid eggs was the week after I threatened to process her with the cornish- she laid every day that week, and nothing since! So, apparently, to get them to lay you have to threaten to eat them.

Well, Easter IS coming soon, so I think I'll have a conversation with ol' Lucy and let her know that she needs to tow the line or else!

I have a GLW hatched 5/15 who hasn't laid an egg either but she sits in the nest - sings egg song, squats, breeds with the rooster. I have kept her locked in the coop to see and put her with my SLW who lay - I too know which pullets lay which eggs. I tried feeding her pepperflakes and cayene pepper and got nothing from it!

Lets hope both our girls get producing soon

My 5 EE hens stopped laying for most of December and January. They are beginning to lay again (I get 2-3 EE eggs/day now). Your's may just be late because of winter. Now that the days are getting longer... hopefully she'll start laying for you.

I considered that, but kind of don't think so because: all the others came into lay in December at 5 months old and we're providing supplemental light beginning at 4:00 a.m., so there's no real winter excuse for her! Is it possible for a hen NOT to lay eggs? Just wondering.
