UPDATE: W/ PHOTOS: I think my silkie is dying!

Re the feed:
What Robin told you is correct (there are also several posts on this in the FEEDING forum)
If you simply put /buy a non-layer type feed (such as grower) in a separate feeder you will find that your roo will choose that feed over the layer . your girls will munch off it too which is why it is also necessary to put a separate bowl of oystershell out > this will ensure the gals have access to sufficient calcium .

I suggest you separate your silkie to a temp stable area (warm) until he is sufficiently rcovered.
Feed him a non-layer type feed and in addition to that get some wheatgermOIL and mix a tablespoon of that through the feed and if at all possible get some aviacharge 2000 and mix that through a wee bit of cooked human oatmeal and then mix that also thru the feed.
Put electrolytes in the water for a week.

If you do not take above action then be prepared to lose your silkie when the winter weather hits.

Here is my silkie. His puff has been trimmed due to droppings in his feathers.

He can not walk at all. If he tries, he stumbles everywhere. It's horrible. He will eat, but cannot even get up to drink. So, I am not sure what to do for him. I changed his food. I read the above post and I will see what I can do. For now I am feeling helpless and feel as if I am just watching him die. He looks like he has a brain issue or something, he cannot walk or keep balance. He lays on his side ALL day. He was not acting like this with the before we changed to pellets and even then he was getting crumbled layer food (that was when he acted fine).

He is a dirty mess from laying around the hen house all day, flopping and falling all about.

Scramble him some eggs, they have lots of protein. You can give him Gamebird feed, it has a lot of protein. I would also give him some Poly Vi-sol without iron.

You may have to give him water from a syringe. If he is unable to drink.

One other thing, set him up in a nest or something that will keep him up off his side. Until he gets to where he can move on his own you will have to reposition several times a day to prevent other physical problems.

And that date on your feed bag is the day the bag was filled, so it was fresh enough.

Well, I tried that yesterday and his droppings were so fowl that I just could not stand it.

I cooked him up an egg and mixed it with crumbled food.

He is in a milk crate in the coop with food and shavings all around him. I will have to go out periodically to help him drink. He can't stand to drink from the feeder. When I stand him up, he will drink while I hold him.

I just don't understand what is going.

His droppings should not be that over powering in smell. What do the droppings look like? He might have GI problem that needs to be addressed. Will your vet help at all if you collected some samples from the boy and took them in?

Sounds like what happened to my brahma pullet when she died, only she was attacked.

She wouldnt eat/drink, even though she would the first night. Her poop was so foul smelling it made me gag, and I have a STRONG stomach; it was also VERY watery, not very much solid to it. I never figured out what was wrong.

It would be best if you put him in the house. Some part were you dont go - and extra bathroom or guesroom, maybe?

Hope you get lucky and can help your boy.
