You are on a forum filled with people that love chickens, and dont condone inhumane practices. Some folks on here raise them for meat, others for eggs, and some just as companion animals, or perhaps for all three, but I guarantee you that almost all, if not all, kill their meat birds humanely, and cull humanely when others need to be put down, and if there are any that dont, they would be silly to talk about their inhumane practices on a forum dedicated to keeping them, and should expect reactions similar to the one you got. That being said, you should expect some judgement when you tell these folks that you released a chick with no eyes, less than a week old, into the wild. And how do week old chicks go missing? They aren't exactly able to fend for themselves at that age and need to be supervised attentively. What is the point of getting chickens if you aren't willing to give them the care they need to get them to eating/laying size/age? If you can't cull the animal humanely, find someone that will. Put an add on craigslist, contact a feed store, a farmer, or go to your local gun range and find a barrel chested freedom fighter that would be happy to help you put the animal down humanely. I am an avid hunter, fisherman, and plan to eat my girls once they stop laying, but they will go humanely when it is their time. And if this is some sick joke that people play on all sorts of other forums in an attempt to get satisfaction by pulling on peoples heart strings, go get a life. If you are serious, be a responsible chicken owner, and have a plan in place for whatever may come up during the time you have them, just like you would for a dog or cat. These are animals that you have made a commitment to by bring them into your care, treat them as such. Thank you.
