**UPDATE- Young hen DYING!??? HELP!!** Worried sick-Injured foot..

Well this is very disheartening. Are you certain that she's been getting a full crop, etc? How quickly do you think she lost weight?

I suppose it's *possible* that she was fighting Marek's and recovered, but that somewhere internally she has neoplasias (tumors) causing her weight loss despite a healthy appetite if and only if she has been eating til her crop is full, has no worms (only really determinable by fecel egg count or recent worming), etc.

Can you possibly pull her up and give her hand feedings (along with free choice food), etc? This was very sudden, yes? Except the weight?

Inbetween this morning and now, did she have any access to compost, wet feed, kitchen scraps? Is it hot there? Can you rule out parasites?

I would definitely get some electrolytes in her. Has she passed any droppings? Does she seem overly cool to you, or hot?

I have not wormed her or the rest of the flock so I have no idea if it is parasites.

I am sure that she has been eating healthily and I have noticed her with a large looking crop.

This was very sudden except for the weight which I have been noticing for a bit was low- I just kind of thought her growth was a bit stunted and she would catch up in time.

I can take her out but I don't think I can get her to eat or drink?? Any tips on that? Or maybe after some rest inside she sill start eating again..?

Between this morning and now she did have access to kitchen scraps, but only fresh vegetable/fruits (ends and middles etc.) and no wet feed or compost.

I haven't seen if she has been eliminating, though she had a small amount of droppings on her butt feathers, I can seperate her and see if she does anything. From what I can tell she doesn't seem overly hot or cool.

Thanks so much for the help and support...

Thank you again for your help. Unfortunately I went out to check on her and move her in and she was dead already. I'm very upset by this and just can't grasp what happened to her.

I hope the rest of the flock will be alright.

It is a sad day.

Oh, I'm so very sorry. HOpefully this was just the young hen, and not a flock thing as she was smaller than the others. It's still possible she had Marek's but then again so many more flocks than people would ever think are exposed to Marek's, and really until you see symptoms it's not worth worrying about - and EVEN then if you worry, there's no way to tell without a necropsy.

So the best thing to do would be just consider boosting the over all immune systems and health of your own flock. If we can help you do that, please let us know - if you have any questions or anything.

In the mean time, all there is to do is this: /hugs Again please accept my condolences.

something similar happened to one of my silkie pullets. she started limping and then she couldn't walk, same thing, just seemed limp, then she couldn't move at all, wouldn't eat, would only drink if i dipped her beak into the water. was dead within a few days
