[UPDATED] CHICK PEEPING AT DAY 13 (yes, really!)

I ended up peeling a small part of the shell back, moistening the membrane really well one more time, and putting a small tear through it where there were no vessels. It absolutely did the trick and must have been necessary, because she began tearing through immediately and popped out maybe an hour later. Still remains to be seen if she's 100% healthy (and a second egg has now pipped so we are keeping an eye on this one now!) But if her lungs are any indication, she has a promising future as the opera singer of our flock

Welcome to the universe, Lotus! She's a little ugly, tired, and weak, but who isn't on the day they're born. Does she look right to y'all? Takes a while to get their bearings and stand up/hold their heads up or should I be concerned?

Yay Lotus! :clap She's most likely exhausted but hopefully her cheeping will encourage the others to hurry up. It does take them awhile to gather their strength and start exploring.

we had a video cam on the eggs so my daughter was watching with her friends at school. This is what mine did..a 30 second dance (falling around like a drunk) and a minute or two of sleep, stop repeat for hours :) happy for you!

Update: 3 total eggs currently have pips and I'm waiting them out.

Check out who's already got plenty of attitude! Figured I'd add a cute pic since the slimy one doesn't do little miss Lotus any justice.

The second egg that pipped has been well over 30 hours at this point, so I attempted to do the same and help it hatch. I pulled a bit of membrane back and got a decent amount of blood. Not like a gush but 4 or 5 drops. I put her back in the inc and have the humidity nice and high. But have I just ruined this chick?
