UPDATED: Neighbors dog GRRRRRRR!!!!UPDATED W/PICS!

THEY know the dog is a problem
THEY said "shoot it"
THEY already HAVE the dog, "caught"
THEY need to take it to a shelter BEFORE it causes more trouble

When we had a situation with the neighbor dogs, my DH needed to stay out of it. He has a much hotter temper than I do. He was pretty upset. He was on the phone, screaming, "I'm coming home!! I'm gonna help take care of it!!!" I figured that it might turn into a street brawl, so I told him to stay at work and I would handle it. Now that I think of it, a street brawl might have been easier than all of the court stuff. Oh well, doing it my way made it so that only the neighbor was arrested. I think that men sometimes avoid confrontation because their common sense tells them that if another man gets confrontational with them, they might get into a situation where they have to "settle it like a man."

Well, I'd buy the whole manly man thing, but I'm more ferocious than hubby when I get fired up

hubby is very calm and collected... Unless I bring home more

Sounds like you've given them plenty enough chances to do the right thing. I wouldn't hesitate to call animal control to COME GET THIS DOG as soon as you see it loose. If you can bribe it with a treat to get ahold of it,(if you think it's safe), I would hold it til they got there and loaded it up! I'm sorry....but you GOT TO PROTECT what's important to YOU! It would cost them $$$ to get it out (which sounds like they wouldn't).
I wouldn't feel bad or worry about what happens to the husky, because chances are someone will adopt him (just tell yourself that)...but more importantly, you don't want to wait until he kills one of yours, right? How bad would you feel then?

Also...what a bunch of JERKS !!!

I would wait til the dog was chained up and no one was around and just take it then. It would be much easier.

If she did that it would be theft. If she catches it when it is on her property than she is just disposing of a pest however she sees fit. Hopefully the owners will actually man up and find that husky a good home with people who appreciate the breed.

Yeah... I wouldn't go onto their property and take the dog w/o permission... I know she could make a great companion for an active person that knows dogs. I'm goins to go down tomorrow again and see if I can get anywhere... Hopefully I'll be able to update with good news!

I would tell them you don't want to shoot the dog and are concerned you might not be there to prevent it from hurting your livestock. Ask them for the dog and take it to a shelter.

OK, you are a great, patient neighbor, but as you said, IT ISN'T THEIR DOG!!!!! They have adamantly stated this. So if it isn't THEIRS and just happens to be living on their property, then it should be no big deal if you catch and re-home it.

If you don't act on this soon, either catching or killing this poor dog, it WILL damage your colt or kill other livestock AND your neighbors will STICK TO THEIR STORY - IT ISN'T THEIR DOG - AND YOU WILL HAVE NO RECOURSE!!!

My favorite form of deterent for all types of non-lethal animal control is a paintball gun. Very satisfying too. Something about a multi-color dog or heron/crane makes me giggle. You can even get fully automatic paintball guns. Picture a machine gun plastering the pest in various colors. The impact stings alot but causes no injury.
