These are better pictures of my two Buckeye chicks. Looks like one has a throw back single comb (2) and the one with the pea comb is starting to show pink (1), am I doomed to have only roosters???

But since no one else chimes in... They both look like hens to me! But once again I'm not good at this!!

I pray you are right! Out of a couple I got from Sand hill, I got both roos, kept one, These I hatched out of eggs from a reputable breeder, but only two hatched out from two shipments and I so want to start breeding them!!!!

Joyous,

In my experience, the Buckeye pullets combs stay nonexistent and pale til they are quite old, so to me number one looks like a cockerel. If number 2 turns out to be a pullet, she shouldn't be used for breeding because of the single comb.

Heres 8 week old pictures! I think it is just not meant to be, now the one with the pea comb is surely a roo, and the single comb throw back I am not sure of!

These are the single comb one, roo or hen???

IMO you have one of each, the single comb is a pullet and the other is cockerel.
I too got some from Sand Hill, and they actually weren't too bad looking, but I found one dead in the tall grass one day. I have no idea what happened to her, but no one else was sick or anything. The one I have left from them is looking good but not laying yet. I hatched some from a breeder and ended up getting rid of a couple of them for bad feathering.
Good luck.
