I brought home 4 New Arrivals yesterday and, since it was starting to rain and we'd had to take the tarp walls off their 4x8 coop for transport, I stuffed them into the Broody Breaker and added more weatherproofing for the night. It POURED just before bedtime and I got completely soaked checking on them, but they were fine.
Today I upgraded their accommodations, converting the dog crate and a brooder/playpen frame into a mini-coop and run that should hold them until the new coop is done. It's not a predator-proof build, but they should be fine inside my electric netting.
To get the feeder out of potential rainfall I will get my son with his longer arms to stick the block into the coop for me tonight after DH brings home a bale of straw to give them some good bedding.
They've got 23 square feet total, which should hold them until everyone can move into the new coop.
