so for it's worked great, about 3 years now.

The buried 2' deep HC has worked?
Have you dug down to make sure HC not degrading?

it is degrading, but only where I did not go with deep eves, where it stays wet. so I definitely recommend deep eves or concrete with a lip around the edges.
