Hi all! I've been battling URI for 2 wks now..used Tiagard 12.5% x 5 days...did not help..symptoms are sneezing, snotty nostrils, eye gook, and excessive congestion/gurgling...I've tried all kinds of supplements along with VetRX twice daily..where can I purchase Tylan 50? I can't get Rx for it! I'm wondering if that would help? Also very skinny..eating,drinking, and pooping normally..I have 4 in my chickfirmary..not all have eye gook or snotty noses..all have congestion though..please advise..all are young pullets..my silkie has had it the longest its been 2weeks now..shes so very skinny .I'm at a loss..maybe I should send her over the bridge than have her so sick..she's been treated twice with Tiagard..with no effect

Tylosin is available online from jedds.com. Both TiaGard and Tylosin will treat mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG.) If the TiaGard did not help symptoms you may be dealing with both a bacterial respiratory disease and a virus, such as infectious bronchitis at the same time. Viruses do not respond to antibiotics and will usually run their course over a month or so. Or you could be dealing with coryza, a bacterial disease that causes a bad odor, as well as the similar symptoms. It is treated with sulfa antibiotics such as Sulfadimethoxine or SMZ TMP, (trimeth sulfa, bactrim) sometimes in combination with Tylosin. You might save yourself some money by getting a couple tested or sacrifice one to your state vet lab for a necropsy. That is the best way to identify what disease(s) they have. All respiratory diseases in chickens are contagious, chronic for the lives of the chicken, and any new birds will get it from exposure to the carriers.
