My little silkie is weezing … no runny nose or sneezing just sounds congested when breathing.I have been giving her VetRX and tolsin with apple cider vinegar in her water. She is also here in the house away from the others. She seems to eat and drink a little. Is there anything else that I can give her that is a better treatment? How long does it take for this to clear up ? I live in an area where there are no avian vets and the vets here no absolutely nothing about birds. -Thank you !

How long has she been wheezing? Does it sound like stridor, when they get a small piece of feed stuck inside the airway. Have you ever had a respiratory disease in the flock, or have you added any new birds recently? Do you see any bubbles or foam in either eye, or swelling near the eye? Here is a video in post 1 of a silkie with stridor that cleared on it’s own:

She has been wheezing for a week or so. I have had previous silkies with upper respiratory issues. But it’s been a while. She has no bubbles or foam in either eyes. No new birds have been added.I took a video of her. Let me try and get it up loaded. 🙂

Can you get some Tylosin powder, and treat with 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days? She needs to drink enough, and you can wet a small bit of food as well. Most respiratory diseases such as MG, coryza, ILT and others make carriers of the flock until the very last bird has been gone for several days to weeks. Here is where you can get Tylosin in a few days:

I have been feeding her scrambled eggs mixed in with her softened feed. She is alert and not lethargic.. just can’t figure out why she is in the house. Haha.

Crap … I just noticed my Tylan has gone past the expiration date. So I just ordered the Tyolsin. Thank you for the link. Can this be given to her orally at all via a syringe?

It is dosed for the water. Tylan dosage is 5 mg per pound 3-4 times a day. Edited to say that Tylan 50 mg per pound daily should be taken.
What about the Tylosin ? When I mix it with the water can I then give her some in a syringe? Would that be safe?Since she isn’t drinking a lot and I want to make sure she gets some asap ( when I receive the order ) The Tylan that is expired was Tylan 200 .
