UPS left my call eggs in the snow!

I just found them. None are cracked. I used a fluke digital thermometer (the kind you point at something and it reads surface temperature) and they were all between 41 and 43 degrees.

Any chance at all for them?

Probably--people have taken refrigerated eggs and had relatively successful hatches. Do the normal resting period letting them come up to room temp slowly (24hs), put them in the incubator, and cross your fingers!!!!

I think I'm more mad at the seller then UPS! They didn't write anything on the box! NOTHING!!!!!! How can I blame UPS when they didn't have any special instructions?

My driveway is snowed in and I understand she couldn't get the truck up the driveway. I just can't believe there was nothing on the box. Not even "fragile"

Had to be the call ducks too! grrrrrrrr

I get my eggs from the same seller. Actually snow is an insulator so they may be fine They pack them really well, too, inside the egg carton. I've had UPS put mine in my cold barn right inside the doorway, no doors, and they were there overnight and I had a 100% hatchrate.

What I do with mine is set them on top of a warmed up incubator. I have 24 eggs, from them, in the incubator right now and 23 out of 24 are fertile and going strong. This is the 4th set of eggs I've gotten from them. One set I actually went to their place and got when I was in NY at Christmastime so I got to see their Call ducks, their ponds (they have 4 of them) and their whole set up. It was nice.

I am sorry this happened to you. But alot of sellers don't write anything on the boxes because there have been cases of the postal workers singling those out and treating them worse than a plain old package. I have heard of eggs being kept at that temp until they had enough to put in the bator. So yours may be perfectly fine.

We had the same issue with ups a while back. Left my package right beside the road, plain sight. Did the same to my neighbors package. It's against UPS policy. They have to take it to the door. My wife called and reported the driver.

Keep calling on them...the drivers here leave it out by the road even when the packages are marked Must Leave At Back Door. Sometimes even when the package is requiring a signature! The only way to stop it is for the drivers to get disciplined by their supervisors.

TenneseeTruly....you're right. They were packed perfectly with lots of insulation, in a huge box. She even sent me a bunch extra. I'm glad you had such a great hatch rate. Gives me hope!

I usually let mine sit about 8-10 hours at room temp, then I put them on top of the incubator for the next few hours before I set them. Do you use a turner for call eggs?

My UPS lady is always so nice. When her truck slid into my mailbox a few months ago (nobody saw it) she left a note, then looked my home phone number up to call me that night and apologize and offer to fix it when the snow melted. It was fine, but it was nice that she went out of her way to let me know. Right now my driveway is covered with snow. I've hiked it many times the last few days and its not an easy walk. She walked up about 20 feet, past where my truck was parked, and left the box by the gate post.

I do understand why the seller didn't label the box. I'm just frustrated because everything I've heard about calls is that they are hard to hatch, so of course it had to happen with them!

I actually have 7 chicken eggs on day 16 right now that I got from the refrigerated section at the farmers market. I wanted to hatch some hens for a neighbor who's flock is slightly older and it seemed like an economical way to do it. ($2 a dozen, I set 10) So I know it's possible to hatch refrigerated eggs, I'm just worried because calls are supposed to be SO difficult to hatch.

Tracy & Tim, the people who are the ebay sellers, are really great people. I met them both when I was in NY are they were wonderful. They always send extras.

They're fertility rate is really high and I had 100% hatch rates with their eggs. I also got a set of twins from one of their eggs. The smallest one died but the others are doing great. There are pictures on here of them.
