Urban Coop for Silkies & ShowGirls

My supervisor "Kojak"

Always, always wants to know whats going on back there

Starting at 12 weeks of age, everywhere I walked around my apartment I would grab him and throw him up on my shoulder.

Well after about a year, these are the results

In the video he is on his cat tree which is about 6ft tall and I am standing about 6ft away from him

I have the camera level with and right against my shoulder

I filmed it twice just to prove he is legit haha

Time to frame the coop

Look how big the canna lilies are now!

So there will be some type of window here and on the right side too

Both windows will be on hinges and lift up

In the back an access door on right and the nesting box will be on left

notice the "deck" outside the coop

This will be the access door

the coop floor is 3'4" plywood

another window on the left

pop door on the right

I had to switch gears and focus my attention on putting together a movable pen

This is 4ft x 8ft x 2ft high

made out of 2 x 3's

I put these plastic panels on one side so they will always have shade

So the reason I had to start and finish this new project??

Of course I jumped the gun and drove like 3 hours to pick up my first 2 silkies even though the coop is not done yet haha

Lets talk ventilation

So in the summertime, no problem I have the 3 windows

For winter ventilation, I kept the very top of the peak open on both sides of the coop

outside

This is the inside of the coop

I can actually stand straight up inside the coop without hitting my head so its about 6'6" at the peak

The openings are probably 4" tall maybe 8-10" across

Here is a shot taken from inside the run
notice my patch work on the roof haha

Time to make a front door

I just used some 6" wide pine boards, everything is screwed and glued together

I should have used another type of wood, the pine is very soft

Then I put 2 coats of a combo stain/poly
