aw, im sorry if i souded like a jerk, i really did appreciate the criticism! i imagine that they wouldnt sell hens in this area if they couldnt survive our harsh winters and summers. I just moved nto this house a couple months ago, and the landlord has "zeroscaped " the garden. meaning its all trees and large bushes, no grass. its acually very pretty and the chicks find the weeds really yummy. there just isnt enough room to pull around a tractor here, but i really think theyre fine. they seem really happy. if they seem bummed i will really try my best to make them happy and if it just doesnt work i will accept it and send them to a happy farm where they will be better off. I guess we will only be able to tell when they are egg laying age.
sorry again if i sounded harsh! i am also an animal lover and always think of my pets, sometimes its hard to get harsh critisizm when im doing the best i can!

Maybe your chickens would like a cabbage ball. I've seen that mentioned often on here, you suspend a cabbage ball in their run, coop, whatever and its like a pinata for chickens. I'm not a fan of cabbage tho, maybe that would make their poo smell worse.

im going to try it tomorrow, smell is not that big of an issue as is really doesnt seep into the house.
THANKS for the suggestion

i was just talking to my boyfriend today and i told him "man, i wish they had chicken toys"...sounds like a perfect chicken toy

It does seem like a lot. The more you have the messier it is. I'd personally get 4 maximum MAYBE 5 if they were smaller size birds since it's a narrow space.
