Urban Downtown Living *six month update*

You can also hang them birdseed suet blocks in those wire holders --- hang them high enough that the chickens have to stretch up to their tippy toes and work for their treats. I usually give mine one a week (so as not to overdo the treats) in the non-growing season.

Of course any kitchen food scraps too. My grandma used to take her chickens the kitchen scraps every day (she even fed potato peels) coz her chickens lived in a run that was just dirt like yours. They really will be fine, but the yolks won't be bright orange like you hear people rave about. The orange color comes from eating greens.

well we have been feeding them our scraps, broccoli stems, zucchinni ends, kale outters, etc...theyll be perfectly happy. but i loooooove the tip about keeping things JUST out of reach!

Looking at your pics, I think yours looks like a wonderful, happy little chicken place.
An idea for smell--I don't know if you already use it, but adding some fresh pine shavings regularly gives a really nice smell, if that would work in the coop area.
The chickens would probably enjoy a perch in the run, too, if that wouldn't make it easier for them to get out. An upside-down bucket could make a good one. It would also be an excellent and appreciated obstacle for any later-addition chicken to run around or hop on top of when being chased by the original chickens during intro period.

Sharing chicken brainstorms is such a great pasttime.
I am amazed, astounded and impressed with the innovations you came up with in your place. Wow!

Very neat & tidy looking, too. Plus a good, long fliiiiiiight line!
I had a roo in a long run before that had open fencing on both sides and a flurry of horses, dogs, and other chickens always churning around outside of it. He felt very insecure in that run (I moved him as soon as I could). Your run design is much better with the wall on one side, plus a little leaf barrier of sorts on the other--And no giant horses next to it! Your girls look curious and confident in it.

well the one side is our garage where we keep our bicycles, ( thats the part you can see with the brck) and our neighbors have this compst pile on the other side that my chicks just love yo pick out of. thank you so much, my chicks seem pretty happy, and super confident. we just want eggs, ymmuy yummu eggs...

Wow, a closet coop--that's freakin' awesome! I think you made excellent use of space and you should really add yours to the coop page. I'm pretty sure yours will be the only 'closet coop' there. Very ingenius. If there was a way for me to do it here, I would.
