Urban Homesteaders

Wow! I paid 7 dollars on sale for my blueberries. My neighbor gave me raspberry starts, now I give away starts every spring. I am in the Pacific Northwest, Washington state. I can usually grow something all year round. I have lettuce, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage and swiss chard growing now. I have chickens, 2 mastiffs and 2 cats. One of my small Polish chickens loves the dogs, and chases them around the yard. She will cuddle with them under a bush to have a nap. She weighs about 1.5 kg, the dogs weigh about 70 kg, lol. She can't see up because of her crest, so she follows their feet around.
:thumbsup so wonderful i love the fact you have mastiffs ..!!! really great dogs i raised English Mastiffs for 30 years in New England..! you can always depend on a well bred English Mastiff to guard any flock and never harm them, guarding is a natural instinct in that breed , my 15 Mastiffs were always great baby sitters for my toddlers , or all my tiny bunnies chicks & young geese and baby goats. with a mix of puppies & kittens .this is a pic of one of my puppies at 16 months old named Boulder an English Mastiff in the news paper with a friend who was 6foot4 just to show the size of this pup....

i found a good use for some of the half size cement blocks i found , they make great oyster shell dispensers ..! they dont rust or rot or get turned over and rain water goes right out the bottom..!!! so they get my vote for those free good things that are really useful..!!!:thumbsup

im planning to do just that, now that our weather temps are cooling off, its time to do some building now that winter approaches..! we will have great weather with no rain, and nice cool days to get things done. those free pallets will be a great help as always free wood is such a great gift to us all :thumbsup ive got a raised coop idea that i designed with all the nest boxes hung off the outside walls and so easy to clean and to keep my flock safe locked up tight at night, & that im planning on building soon with pallets .:woot:ya:D :):yesss:

I built a fence across my carport and a gate, a deck off the back porch, I put chicken wire on them and lay them on the ground in the run so grass can grow, then I move them. I am now building a fence across the backyard, so the chickens stay off the porch, all with pallets. I'm sure I've done more, just can't think of it yet. I'm going to cut the slats out of a bunch of them and stain them and make a walkway through my front yard, since I'm just having gardens there, no lawn. Do you go on Pinterest?
