Urban northern coops - made in China

Also I wanted to point out that there are "no negative reviews" on their own website, but the internet shows several Better Business Bureau complaints and other terrible reviews, and their Yelp pages are 100% 1-star reviews. We are so conditioned by Amazon where it shows non-biased reviews by the customers that the Urban Northern website is misleading because they curate their reviews to fool unsuspecting buyers.

I am one of those people who got suckered into their resort coop. I was in a pinch and needed a coop due to an upcoming move to a new house where their real coop is being built. Nowhere on their site do they suggest the material is from china. Should have known. Many of us new to chickens are overwhelmed by wanting to do the right thing, or not having the know how/ or resources to construct a coop.

I ended up getting the coop and it was terribly expensive for the product received and I had to seal the entire structure so the rain wouldn’t destroy it. Not what I expected after spending several hundred dollars. My girls are not laying yet, so hopefully they will be in their real coop before that begins.

Thanks for posting. Wish there was a better option than building for those who are newbies,

I have been googling for a Chicken Coop or chicken coop design to house 6-8 chickens, and of course I came across Urban. What I didn't expect, was to get an ad on Facebook for a Chinese distributor selling all of Urban's coops. Urban's got bad reviews and a reputation for cheap materials. Now it's obvious why. They are just a reseller of Chinese made goods. This is not obvious on their website.

Funny, because Urban swears their designs are their own and are "shipped from the USA". 🙄 They really pitch them like they are manufactured with quality in mind.

The markup is ridiculous. Urban sells these coops for $1000-$3000 each. You can actually buy a Singleton, not in bulk, version of this coop from a different distributor, from China for $300.

I know how poor quality these coops are because i am currently in the process of replacing my Urban coop that hasn't lasted a year. It is falling apart and filled with mold.
Where did you find those pictures? I am going through my credit card company to get a refund but I'd like to include the pictures you posted so they have a beater idea about what went down. I can't make out the company name in the screen shots. Thanks!

It not shady to mark up a product source through wholesale. But you should have put more research before buying a prefab coop.

Is it crazy they do mark up so much though !? YES!

DIY...that's the whole purpose of this place...

I mean...just exactly why do you have chickens anyway?
I was under the impression that the whole purpose of this place was to discuss raising chickens. After all, I don’t do the maintenance on my car, but still value the experience of driving one. Aren’t non-DIY types equally welcome?

I'm gonna put a plug in here for Root & Roost - this is where I purchased my pre-fab coop from. Made in Texas with US sourced cedar
I wouldn't use that.

As an over-thinker myself, you may be over thinking that comment.

Maybe. I was imagining what it would feel like to have someone ask me “just exactly why do you have chickens anyway?” It was more a plea for kindness to the folks who don’t feel comfortable building. (And I am planning to build mine.)
