Urban predator attack - What did this? - *Graphic pics warning!*

I don't think there have been any snakes around here for about 40+ years since cement, houses, and apartments took over the area. Alligator lizards are our biggest "vicious" reptile up to about 8 to 10 inches, and they only eat the black widows and other bugs. My husband said a coyote would have carried it off rather than left it. I was leaning toward raccoon when I saw it since there are regular sightings.

If it was a stray dog it makes sense, I just didn't think about it.

Technically, we don't have ducks, but ducks do frequent our front yard daily. We don't feed them, but other folks in the neighborhood do. They hang around regularly on our street since there is a public park with a duck pond around the corner. They particularly like my front garden for all my plants and bugs.

It was a pekin duck that someone probably released at the pond after deciding not keep it as a pet. It hung out with a group of 7 other white crested ducks and mallards. The ducks aren't very afraid of people, but they won't let the kids grab them. I don't know if you would call it wild.

I had a raccoon attack a few weeks back and your pics look alot like mine, the last pic for sure..My ducks neck was skinned as well , it would have been worse Im sure but the raccoon was trying to pull it through the cage..My other duck lost it wing to it..He is doing better has a broken wing no feathers and has to take alot of medication cant live the house for 2 months..He will make it..Mine was a raccoon

We called Animal Control this morning when we first found the duck carcass and "crime scene." We were unsure if we should just clean it up or have them aware of it before we did it. When I called they said they were sending out a field agent and to leave it alone until then. They finally came out a couple of minutes ago. Wow, I thought I was weird photographing the carnage, but they did too. They felt it was consistent with a coyote attack and that there have been a dramatic increase in problems with them around here. They felt that our dog scared it off in the middle, then it came back to finish, got scared off again, and then finally gave up after the third time my dog made such a ruckess. The duck was just outside our open front window where it ended up.

However, I am leaning toward it being a stray dog after all the comments here. I guess I won't know for sure.

Now I am feeling it was time and money well spent when I built my coop so secure after reading all the suggestions on strong predator proof construction here at BYC. Thank you for all the advice here and in the Coop Const. forum.

DOG!! wild predator would have ate some of it. Snake it would still have feathers on its neck just wet not missing. Even mink would have ate parts. Dog like to play. sometime eat, but most time not.
