Urgent Baby Chick Out But Has Something Protruding From It Bottom

If you had slightly lower temps, they can hatch as late as day 25+. I have had chicks hatch 2 days apart from the same incubator! How is he doing? I have heard some babies can take 36 hours to hatch! I havent been able to let em go 15 hours without going crazy and feeling helpless. Patience is a virtue, but can make you so self blaming in the incubator/hatch waiting game.

he seems to be doing ok he is starting to move alot he is drying out but his fluff looks hard and brittle will it adventually fluff out correctly once i move him or her to brooder i will post pictures he has very little room in the incubator to move the little blob stuff seems to be drying out and does not look as bad now when can i move him to brooder to have more room

Mine never fluff out too much until way later. Some times they have slicked back stiff fluff. My last one like that I brought out and put under my shirt with a heating pad.Him rubbing around under my shirt made all these little pieces of fur-like stuff come off, then he fluffed up. He was lonely, so he loved being under my shirt where it was secure and warm. I dont know if you should move him with that gunk still hanging off him. I dont know if that thing needs to be kept moist still or not, maybe someone else will answer. Is he peeping and flopping around pretty vigorously?

he is peeping and flopping arund like crazy the stuff hanging from him has perrty much dried up and some has fallen off i hope with him or her flopping around will wake the other 2 up to get them to start peeping i want to hold him but i am affraid i will hurt it it is still not able to hold its head up good yet just for a few seconds then lays back down and sleeps i will try to take a picture later going to give it time to rest and get it a little stronger

for some reason when i woke up this morning he had passed away do not know whay he was doing so good moving around and cherping could the incubator been to hot or could it have been from stress

and for some reason the other 2 eggs do not seem to be doing anything they floated in the water test but i could not see wiggling this is day 22

Sorry you lost your chick.

Sometimes it just happens. The ones that hatch without all of their "stuff" absorbed it's always just a wait and see type of thing to see if they will have the strength to pull through and thrive. I would still give the other eggs some more time just in case. Sometimes it can take 25 days or so for them to hatch if the temps have been off.

Thanks for this thread - I picked up my 8 hour old duckling almost dry to put in brooder with other 2 and it looked horrible on the butt. so I will leave in overnight with cup of water and hope for best. another night of peeping - I need to find another location for incubator.
