I have 8 baby chicks, and they are about two weeks old. Two days ago they started ripping the tail feathers out of one of the chicks to the point where he was bleeding. All of the chicks are ganging up on it and attacking it. We have had to separate it from the others, and they baby chick is extremely sad. He wants to be with the others so bad, but if we put him back in the cage they all attack him. Is their anything we can do to help the baby? Its extremely sad to watch. Could we get a younger chick to keep him company? any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I have had many chicks before and have NEVER had this happen. HELP PLEASE!

i have found blue-kote-like products to be very very helpful with this kind of situation. i have been able to spray and return the chick to the flock quite a few times. i LOVE blue kote!

I have found that if I use a red bulb instead of the clear, it helps to keep pecking from starting. If they start, I will put vaseline on the area, because the chicks don't care for it and they usually stop. If they continue, I'll pull the chick and another one that seems less aggressive so that it has a buudy until it heals enough to go back in the pen. Hope this helps.

I'd get him a stuffed animal friend and put him in a see through container IN the brooder with the others, so he can see them, but can't get hurt by them.

I put a stuffed cat in their and he has nuzzled up against it, and fell asleep. Thanks so much!

I use Blu-coat, i have a baby chick that has had a bad case of pasty butt, I tried everything to remove it and in the process the skin tore, her little behind is all bruised so I put blu-coat on her, and I have all red lights. That feather pecking is bad and can actually be passed down, if you can find out who the main feather puller is, separate that one, and than try to reunite, and if it keeps up, you may have to cull. I am only speaking from what I have read and seen myself with one hen.
