Urgent! Chicken Egg, No Incubator!

To be young again!

Keep the egg in your bra, what do you have to loose????? we learn by experimenting.

Odds are against you, but there is a possibility it could work. If the egg would be rotten and break-- big deal, you smell bad till you shower, its NOT TOXIC!

Incubation has no set rules! Some birds use a mound of compost to incubate there eggs!

Hey. About the gym thing, isn't there a chance of the egg breaking in your bra? That would not be fun. Depending on what grade your in is gym requried or just there? Maybe you could go to another class during gym? If you have a FFA advisor maybe they will have an incubator?

I would have been more worried at the fact that your husband was wearing a bra than the fact that he was keeping an egg warm in it....

Once again, thanks!!! I'm just about to head to school, and sadly, gym is required. Starting next year I won't have to take it. I just checked the eggs. The teeny one is slightly warmer than the other, but they feel perfectly warm to me right now. I'm going to turn them over every morning, after school, and before bed everyday until the last 3 days. Can anyone tell me how they are forming now if everything is going well?

Oh, and I hope they don't break! They're pretty secure right now

At least I'm not running today, but when I do, I'm pretty sure they'll still be OK. I'll let you know how everything went when I get home!

Hopefully--Do what makes you happy. It's not likely the eggs will hatch if you carry them in your bra, but as someone already said, what have you got to lose? Even those of us with "real" incubators sometimes lose an entire hatch due to circumstances beyond our control, and sometimes we don't even know *why* we lose a hatch. Mother hens lose hatches sometimes too. So... whichever method makes you happy is the one you should try.

If you do carry them, you'll need to be very gentle of course, and try not to jiggle them any more than you can help. But if eggs survive shipping (and some do, although it certainly reduces hachability), then they may survive being carried gently around on your body.

But the heating pad method is more tested--more folks have done it that way, and some of them successfully. So if that method makes you happy, then go for it.

I think the whole thing is a wonderful experiment and worth doing whether it works or not. I tried incubating an egg I found in the park when I was 11--I kept it wrapped in a blanket on top of the radiator (this was in England in the 80s--our heaters were these big metal things against the wall filled with hot water--very comfy for warming socks and eggs). It never hatched--I don't know if it was even a fertile egg when I found it--it could have just been a discarded store-bought egg for all I know and might have been sitting there for weeks--but the experience was worth the trouble, and I still think fondly of those days and of my parents for letting me keep a (potentially rotten) egg on the radiator in my bedroom.

So do what makes you happy. And keep us posted.

I agree keep it in the middle not in a cup of the bra. I guess if someone found out, and then I am sure they would all laugh eventually it would maybe turn into a cool thing for everyone. You might have a lot of attention... not the kind I would want but I hope if something happens you can hide it or get through it some how. Practice making no face as you imagine warm egg goo running down your body... I think I would laugh and run tot he bathroom as soon as possible, bring a change of cloths with you....

That is a good point about how eggs are shipped and all, it makes me feel better. Today we had a minimum day so I'm home early!

I told my best friend, who absolutely refused to put the eggs in her bra claiming it was stupid (she said this in a nice way, but thought I was crazy!) So I had to bring the eggs to gym. The teacher refused to let me use the microwave so I could heat the rice and use it to keep the eggs warm. She's mean. So,
Instead of taking off my shirt, I pulled my PE shirt over it figuring that it would keep the eggs warmer anyway. And in my other classes (except gym) I wore a jacket just to make sure they weren't too cold but of course not too hot. We played badminton in gym, I was extremely careful until the end when I ran forward to hit the birdie. I freaked out, wondering if the sudden quick movement might have caused some damage, but I'm not sure.

I didn't break an egg!!!

They're in top condition and they don't feel hot, but they do feel nicely warm. I suppose that's good right? I thought eggs in my bra would bother me but it seemed like nothing was there as bantams do lay small eggs, thank goodness! No one knows but my close group of friends, who think its a pretty wild thing to do but are interested to see what happens. I also asked my science teacher about it, who said she didn't have an incubator but she'd also like to see what happens. She said I've got a pretty good chance since having the eggs in my bra would provide pretty good body heat. She just told me that running might be an issue, but I'd just have to hope for the best...

Oh, and while I was showering yesterday, I put the 2 eggs in a box with a towel and set them in the corner. I made sure the bathroom got steamy for them (sorta like humidity for them) and now I'm wondering should I do that again tonight or was that a mistake?
Sorry this was so long!!!

Hi again, if you are going to try to incubate this way, it would be good if you had a few more eggs. Would your mom let you have a total of about 6 eggs?
