Alright everyone *deep breath
I'll give it a go!
Wish me luck

Hopefully--I don't know if *those* eggs are any good now or not. Had you begun warming them? Chicken eggs will last several days without heat or refrigeration (actually, they can last weeks) *if* they haven't begun to develop yet. But once incubation begins, they "spoil" much more quickly. So if they have not been kept warm for any great length of time, there is a good chance you can still try your experiment with them. If you had begun warming them, how long had you kept them warm before putting them outside?

They were laid 2 days ago, I brought them in today and kept them warm all morning and brought them back out maybe 2 hours ago? Very windy outside! But they haven't begun to develop if its been 2 days... right?

Well, they can begin to develop in two days, yes--but they only begin to develop once they are warmed up to the right temperature. If you only had them warm for a few hours, they are probably just fine. I think it's worth a try. After five days of keeping them warm, you can candle them (use a bright light like a flashlight in a dark room to see inside the egg), and you'll be able to tell whether they are developing successfully. If so, GREAT. If not, at least you won't have to carry them around for the full 21 days to find out.

Mother ducks often lay eggs and sit on them a few hours at a time for several days before they begin incubating in earnest. So they should be just fine.

Please keep us updated. I'm glad your mother is supportive--that will make it MUCH easier. If your science teacher has an incubator, that would be great too--maybe she/he can incubate the eggs in the classroom, and then everyone can share the miracle. But doing it in your shirt may work out just fine too--it will certainly be interesting to see.

Haha OK thanks! I'll let you know how it works now... I'm feeling jittery now. I put two eggs in my bra, a teeny little one and one that is slightly bigger. I left the dented one as my mom told me it wasn't worth it and she said if it exploded while I was at school, I would never live it down. I feel bad about leaving that one but all well

Do i have to turn them often in my bra... or just let them sit in there? Luckily winter is coming so I can wear a jacket. I don't want anyone knowing I have eggs in my bra, that'll take quite a bit of explaining! lol! Keep your fingers crossed!

Yes, I guess I have an egg in *my* bra too.

You can probably make your "situation" a little less obvious if you keep the egg nestled in the center--not actually in one of the cups of your bra--gosh, I hope it's okay that I'm talking about bras with a teenager online--and then wear a sweater or something with*out* a scooped neck. Or wear a sports-style bra, and it will be easy to cup the eggs in the center portion of the bra.

What *are* you going to do about gym class? Do you have a good friend with a different schedule who could take over for an hour a day? Or can you get a doctor's note to get out of gym?? I probably shouldn't be encouraging such behavior but, honestly, I HATED gym class myself, and would have taken any excuse to get out.

Anyway. Thanks for the compliment on my avatar--it's amazing how much time I spent with hot glue and fabric scraps to get that done. You would think I had nothing better to do with my time! lol My original plan was to change out the avatar every quarter or so, to something appropriate for each season (maybe a sweater and a jack-o-lantern face for Sept/Oct/Nov, for instance). But after how long *that* one took, it may not happen.

Oh well. It's nice to know someone noticed it, anyway, considering how many hours the project sucked up.

By the way--I hope your high school compatriots are nicer than the folks I went to high school with. If anything should happen (and I hope it doesn't) and one of those eggs breaks, you may be in for some pretty rough treatment... I hope not, though.

You are seriously like one of the nicest people on here! Thanks for the great help!

Maybe because of you these chicks may survive! I'm still deciding what to do about gym, I don't think my friends would be very flattered to be asked about putting a couple eggs in their bra... I'll ask my best friend, she'll do anything for me, but if not, I'll just change quickly and try to make the eggs stable... that's the tricky part.

And you made it? You're really good then! My mom also does a lot of crafts.
There are a lot more nicer people at my high school than mean, but if an egg did happen to break, it won't be a very pretty year.

All well... I'm willing to take the risk! I am definitely going to wear the sports bra, thanks for the great advice! You are awesome

OMG I hope this works! My mom keeps assuring me that it will, although my dad wasn't too excited to hear about my plan.

Ok, so your gonna do this right? Then you need to do it right if you want those chicks to have a chance.
Do you have a heating pad and a cardboard box? If you do then that is where they should be. Not at school. If you take it to school then all the moving around will kill that embryo. It needs a warm quiet place that stays in one place.
If your mom knows then I bet she will let you use a heating pad.
If you want more help let me know and I will write some more.

Okay. I am really determined to help you make this work.

I would have LOVED to have done something like that in high school, so I'm just going to live through you for the next 21 days, 'k?

So--gym class. How about this--can you get ahold of some of those hand-warmer thingies that you just break, and they stay warm for an hour or more? Or do you have access to a microwave right before gym? If you do, you could put some (UNcooked) rice in a bag, and heat it in the microwave, then nestle the eggs in a towel on top of the rice during gym class. Uncooked rice holds heat really well. Or if you can't do that, how about bringing HOT water to school in a thermos, then pouring it into a tray in your gym locker, and then somehow rigging a tray right over the water, on which you set the egg, and then laying a towel over the egg?

Oh man. High school would have been SO much more fun with an egg in my bra!
