Urgent Help Needed! Ducks will not leave frozen pond-unsafe to walk on.

I was able to watch here in the coop
She will sometime peck at the wall to see what is in front of her
She can find her food and water just takes her longer than the others

I noticed also when she was in the pond
Once all the others came out and she seemed not to see were they were

I intend on taking her to the vet to check her
Also I think one of them has diera

You'll have to spend some time in their coop to see which one. Or separate each one to evaluate but that would probably stress them out. Ducks can have all manner of poops from watery to blk to in between depending on what they are fed and what they eat when foraging. Can you post some pics of the poop your seeing we have some here that are poop experts[not kidding] lol they can help if it's something to worry about.

As for the one that is blind be sure to keep food and water in same place all the time so she can find it .Having a vet check her out would be a good idea too.

Bless you for taking them in.

Hi
I have one duck that has a swollen ankle - there are 2 boys and 6 girls - this is one of the males and the sweetest one! -
I saw he could not walk well and he was staying alone when the others were foraging. Put them in there house tonight and he did not fight at all when I picked him up - his ankle is very swollen - I put him in a dog cage so to make sure he gets his food and water.
He seems fine with it - but the other ducks seem upset about him being in the cadge. - Should I take him inside ? - I am scheduling a vet appointment - just do not want to stress them out more than need be

Can you post a pic of his ankle? did you check the bottom of his foot? they can get Bumble foot from splinters or cuts etc and it is an infection that needs treated asap so good thing you can get him to a vet because if there is a lot of swelling and heat sounds like it could be an infection but if nothing is on the bottom of his foot like redness blk scab then it could be an injury.

The bumble can be treated with out a vet if needed but if infection has spread then vet care is needed.

Your such a awesome adopted mama. :hugs

Hi
He would not let me take photo - but it sure looks like one foot has black buble and other ankel is swollen maybe because he is using that foot - and once other ankle swelled I was able to see his problem walking -

Swelling looks a little better today may be because i kept him in crate - let him out put keeping inside others our outside - calling for vet today --

Getting him to keep weight off right now is critical. So hopefully your vet and find out what's going on and get him healing up. Their legs are not that strong to begin with so they can injure themselves pretty easily.

Please keep us updated.

I'm having the exact same issue with three of my jerk ducks and exact same situation I have their coop already for them but I can't get them to stay out of the pond and it's almost frozen over How do I coax them into their coop? And how did it work out for you? Did they end up coming out on their own?

We had a floating shelter that they rarely used. They slept along the bank and kept the ice from forming right around that edge. Wouldn't go in to save their lives--literally. The coyotes got them all, one by one until they were all gone.☹️

I have seen some will use a rope and one has one end another the other end and they drag the rope across the pond to get them off of it then you slowly walk behind herding them inside your pen, if you don't have a pen built around your coop I'd def make one that way you can keep them away from the pond over winter when it will be frozen. And hopefully the predators won't be taking them. Your pen will need to be predator poof also.
