Please help me, I just returned from a few days holiday to find that my gorgeous 14 week old frizzle called dylis has been attacked by my old hen, an appenzeller called Hiedi!!!

Poor dylis, is almost bald and blood has been drawn on her back and head!! I think I found her just in time before she was killed!!!

I've now separated her, gave her food and water which she seemed to need. I've put baseline on her wounds as I have nothing else until I get the shop tomorrow.

Anyone have any advice what I can treat her with, how to clean the wounds and get her back to health. Wicked hiedi will be rehomed before I return poor dylis back to the flock!!!

Help me please :-(

You should clean the wound with whatever first aid items you have on hand, I use Vetericyn but if you don't have that, you could use alcohol, although that might sting. Peroxide will work too but I use that as a last resort. You could also flush the area with saline solution if you happen to have that. Trim away any feathers that might get into the wounds. Apply Neosporin or other antibiotic ointment (without pain relievers!) and cover it with dressing and wrap with vet wrap. Keep it dry and change the dressings frequently. Once it starts to scab over, I would start leaving the bandage off to let it get air, which will help speed up recovery.

It may look bad, but if you get it cleaned up as soon as possible and keep it clean, she should be alright. Chickens are extremely resilient when it comes to bad injuries. And feathers grow back :D

Thanks for your advice. I will get onto it straight away. I have neosporin and saline.

I will take her to the vet tomorrow I think!

Update on little dylis... she is heeling really well! It's amazing how fast she is improving.

I've been using hibiscrub to bathe her, then wound powder and then purple spray on the top... twice per day!!!

I'm so happy she is recovering!! Thanks for all your support! Xx
