Hey guys I am going to a Poultry Show this Feb.19-20. The CVPA Show in Newnan,GA. And I need some help with the entries...

The entry form looks like this....

Variety:
Breed:
#Cocks:
#Hens:
#Cockerels:
#Pullets:
Specify (B, LF, W):

# of Birds:
# of Double Coops:

My questions are, what is needed for Variety?
And when would you need a double coop?

I am in the junior show and when I first go in with my birds, will I just take care of them and put them in their cages? Would my mom be able to stand with me (without helping of course).

And my birds arent Pullorum Typhoid tested yet. So with my birds I can just go either Friday evening or Saturday morning to get them tested? Is it free?

Any show tips are appreciated too!

I would call the show secretary and see if you can still enter. usually you do that well before the show. also ask about the pullorium testing. your mom can help you and handle birds. variety is the color. a double coop is for very large birds. don't forget to take a camera, a watering can to fill cups, baby wipes, and vet rx or baby oil for combs and wattles. I'm sure more people will chime in. good luck and have fun

I'm afraid i dont know some of your answers, i've even see cooping done differently. If that is indeed an entry form and not an entry tag (the card that will be hung on the cage you are putting your birds in) It should go like this (keeping in mind i have no idea what you are showing, lets say standard blue orpintons for example):

Variety: Blue (what color are you showing, could be discriptive based on breed like mottled, silver spangled, ect.)
Breed: Orpington
#Cocks: 2 (total number of adult males you show for that breed)
#Hens:2(total number of adult females for that breed)
#Cockerels:2 (total number of young males)
#Pullets:2 (total number of young female)
Specify (B, LF, W): LF (b=bantam, LF= largefowl, W = waterfowl)

# of Birds: (# of birds total, so in our case 8 all together)
# of Double Coops: this one i'm unsure of. i've seen it used in some shows to indicate your bird is large enough to need a double coop, but in other shows i've seen it used if you wanted to show a pair, hopefully someone will clarify that.

So you repeat that process if you are showing multiple breeds. if it is an actual cage tag, then its for a single bird and you would fill it out as that. And fill out one for each bird you want to enter.
Hope that helps

Double coops are for very large birds that will not comfortably fit in the regular sized coop. Or it could be for a trio, if the show allows you to enter trios.

And, yes, you should call the show organizer. The cut off date for entries can be a week before or maybe more, depending on the show. Good luck!

You usually pay extra for double cooping and trios. Trios are usually placed in two cages, one for the male and one for both hens; some shows put the hens in separate cages.

Double coops are also recommended if you have long tailed breeds. Like say Sumatra roos.

From the link it looks like they have onsite PT testing at specific times. It doesn't say whether or not there is a fee. I've never seen more than $2/bird charged, but IDK for there.

Looks like your Mom can be present, but absolutely, positively I would not let her touch anything. Not even your supplies. Since I'm the Mom in our case, I would probably even stay clear of the aisle.

It doesn't/hasn't mattered at any of the shows we've been to before, but when they go to the extent of having it right there and so high amongst the show rules, well, they've got an issue...... I would hate to inadvertently DQ my kids.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I am bring one Serama hen and one buff orpington hen. What do I need to put as the variety for my Serama since she doesnt have an exact color?

i dont have a way to put pictures on my computer. But I can explain it to you the best I can..
She is light brown all over except for some black in her tail and a bit of lacing on her chest.
