URGENT! how to get rid of these chickens?

I'm sorry. I didn't realize this was a child. We're suppose to be helpful, not hurtful.

I'm not convinced of youngster or not, but I think so, and either way she needs some help here. Location, best I can deduce, is Amarillo, TX.

Age really doesn't matter, what we have is someone who has 8 chickens and no money to feed them. Doesn't have the nerve to process them nor to think of someone else doing it where she can see it.

1. Keep renewing that ad on Craig's List. Don't say anything like "pets only", that will defeat your purpose, which is to get rid of the chickens. Better they go to feed another poor family a decent Christmas dinner than serve your sensitivities.
2. Feed the chickens cooked rice, oatmeal, cooked eggs, any grain you can, day old bread, veggie trimmings, whatever you can! If you can let them free range, all the better.
3. Do NOT just dump them a block away. Better to kill them quickly and mercifully then to abandon them to an uncertain and probably miserable fate.
4. Learn to say no.
5. Don't get any more chickens until you know more about raising them and can afford to. Chickens cost just as much as other pets, for the most part.

Don't give up, just focus on learning more and most importantly, rehoming those chickens! You've had plenty of good advice, stop wailing and take it! Best of luck to you!

chickens can eat many different things, vegies, fruits, they love cabbage and lettuce and apples. chicken feed is best though. they really like oatmeal and cereal, my chickens go nutty for cheerios...lol....I sometimes go to walmart and buy a large bag of wild bird feed, they really like that too. Cracked corn is ok for a treat but it would make them really fat and its not very complete as a food for them. If they are laying eggs you could cook those up for them too, its a nice yummy treat.

I know you got scared and maybe a little confused and maybe thought you were in over your head, but it really doesn't cost much to feed them and they really like table scraps. Dumping them off would only make things worse for them and you surely would feel even more guilty. If you need more info you can look on the forum posts or the learning centre or you can PM me and I will gladly try to direct you in the right direction. Enjoy those chickens and when you can get out there and buy them a bag of feed

See if there is a 4-H club in your area - their members might like to adopt and give good homes to the birds. Maybe an animal rescue group in the area can put you in touch with the right people or in some other way help you sort this out. If you want to ID your general geographic area I know folks here would help you find some groups to call and or may be able to personally help with adoptions.
In the meantime, make sure they have plenty of fresh water and a safe dry place to sleep and some good food.

What walmart are you shopping at? mine def. doesnot have chicken feed.

@luvchickies did you cook the rice? they probaly won't eat it dry. Sweetie you need to remember before you take a pet, you need to know its care info. Craigslist ads for chickens need to be posted in the farm&garden section, not pets. Chickens are resilient, they will come back. You really need to wiat more than 5 mins before jumping from, what do I feed to dump on road.

After doing a little investigating (reading over the posts that she has started), she appears to be a very 'young' & impatient 10th grader at this point in time. And ranchhand is right, age isn't really important.
What IS important is the fact that at one point she professes to have about forty (40) chickens at the time of the post:

What, pray tell, happened to all of those chickens (given that she knows HOW to cull but prefers not to) and what in the world was she feeding them?!
I'm all for being helpful, but if it smells like fish & looks like fish, chances are--IT'S FISH!

All of the posts with this OP's name attached are worded similarly (all with some sense of urgency), so I doubt that someone other than the person owning this account is using it.
I seriously urge the OP to back away from the chickens once you have gotten rid of them (NOT by dumping them somewhere) and wait a few more years when you don't have things like school work & hanging out with friends to worry about. Give the chickens a chance...with someone that can retain info on how to care for them.
For the love of all things sacred--do NOT get any more pets until you are an adult with your formal education behind you & a job/place of your own!

I don't want to see them die in front of my eyes (as I've said in an earlier post) so the only thing I could do was dump them. I'm a bit offended since you really don't know the situation I'm going through right now, anyway thanks for your post.

Thanks to everyone who helped me! now I know where to get cracked corn!!! I'm really excited because I got free chickens and I'm glad that they're with me because now I know where to get food for them and I'm going to take good care of them and fatten them up!

I thought cracked corn was going to be like $20, but it's only $7 for a 50lb bag!

Simply put... your situation is ridiculous. You do not 'dump' animals. Period. I will not sit here and feel 'sorry' for you to make such a comment. To come here for help and expect what? People to agree you made one correct assumption of the situation. You are just plain lazy. You can list them here for free... but as you have not, you are not at the 'last resort'. You should be ashamed of yourself for even suggesting that.

Someone will take them, go be creative and find them a home rather then sulking because no one on craigslist responded.

Its sad enough your friend neglected them, and you came along and took them in to neglect them as well.

However, with the date you signed up, and the your user name... I am questioning this post and your intentions as being true or not?

Again... chickens eat scraps! Carrot tops, left over breakfast cereal, wilted lettuce you don't want, canned corn... whatever...
