URGENT!! i NEED TO CUT ROOSTERS SPURS LOOK WHAT HE DID TO MY HEN! PICS

If i took something and cut the tips off would that work to?? =/ and was this rooster spuring the hen was this an accedent do you think??

After one of my refugees got into a scrap with my dog, she had some ugly wounds like that. I treated her with Meloxicam (pain meds for my dog) for a few days and a week of Doxycyclie twice daily (had those leftover from my horse). She's as good as new! They are amazing healers, so maybe w/a little TLC she will be OK. Makes me re-think the idea that adding a rooster would be fun, though:(
Good Luck.

They will grow out faster if you just cut the tip, & if you over cut, they bleed like you've never seen. Try the twist method. One swift twist, pop, it's done. Not near as gross as it sounds. She got tore up by the rooster trying to "position" himself for breeding. Sometimes they have to "walk around" awhile before they get in the right position. His ragged spur didn't help matters much either.

This is an old trick. People used this to show roosters as stags. Better to take a cut off wheel, and cut them about 1/2 in. from leg. little bleeding, dab with blood stop, last alot longer. Removing the outer shell of the spur does last long. That like pulling a finger nail off ,and leave the quik exposed. Thats what the bumb you leave behind,is the quilk .

Sorry, I like my way better, NO bleeding.

Best way, last alot longer too. Plus if you show, people look down on removing the spur out shell. Cheaters did that to make older rooster look like young stags..

Check his toe nails, I have a 2in. cut on my hand from a rooster toe nail. Think how they mate, he hold on the hens back with his feet, the spurs dont come in contact with her back, unless he is fighting her.
