As the title says, one of my newborn chickens (it was born yesterday), has both of his legs tucked up and cannot walk despite his efforts. He is moving with his body though. It seems like he can move his legs, but I am not sure whether he can move the toes. I am helping him drink and eat, but it's so heart breaking that he can't walk :( I think that I should go with him to a vet since it's not just one leg, but both..... Any ideas? Here are two photos of his legs. Do you think he could have tumors? I mean, what else could these "things" be? Hope his legs are not broken... And hope they will develop soon, but how? Oh... I don't want to kill him :(

Also, he is moving with his ankles. I know you can't see this, but you can imagin it, right? Also, the top picture shows better how he has his legs tucked up... Help, I will post more images if you want.

I've searched about that a while ago, but what I am worrying for is that tumor-like things on his legs... It's so strange...

Is it a problem? I mean, what if I try to stretch her legs and do something bad on her legs. (Like cutting them...)

You need to hobble his legs asap. Happened to mine and within 24 hours he was running with the rest of them. Let us know if it works for you.

I'm sorry but I don't have answer for what the lumps are and I can't see them very well in the pictures. If you have a vet that will take care of chickens, that is the best place to start. I think you also have to consider the cost and the quality of life for this chick. Unfortunately, sometimes a chick needs to be culled. If it is only straddle leg then you should have no problem saving it if you act quickly. I'm sorry you have to deal with this.

Thank you so much for helping me! It means a lot! Sumi, I checked the site out and it seems that I found the problems :( He not only has spraddle legs, but he also has slipped Achilles Tendon in Hock Joint alongside with swelling on both of his hocks. I am not sure how exactly can I help him... I tried to stretch his legs out like the site says for like half an hour and I will do it later too. But I am worried about the swelling... Does anybody knows a good way to cure this? The site says it's extremely impossible to cure it if it has swelling... It's so sad. He seems so spiritful and energetic. He wants to sit up and walk... :( Also, sure I put something on his legs so I can cure his spraddle legs?

Edit: I didn't say about the method I used. It seems like it "Works" in some way, BUT, by that I mean that while I am holding him with my hand (gently) and I stretch his legs, I managed to make them stay in the same position (like normal, but not totally stretched), until he pulls his legs back. But it has no effect on his walking or standing... :(

It was actually going to all of you... Oh English, wish it had different word for the plural one... After that, I referred to Sumi for the site he told me about.
