Okay so we got two white Chinese goslings three weeks ago. I have read they are super duper loud. And I’m nervous we might have to get rid of them since we live in the city. We haven’t had any troubles with their chirping yet, but I’m worried about the honking and so far no one had been of any comfort to me. Everyone had said it’s a challenge to raise them in a backyard in the city. We don’t have a small backyard, it’s a good size, but we are quite close to the neighbors and I’m panicking of what they might think when they start honking and if they will report us. Everyone had been so depressing when they reply to me. 😩 we have an area they can go in to be locked in at night, maybe we need to do that idk. But please someone I’m so panicked and everything, they’ve already imprinted and I’m absolutely totally freaking out and idk, no one had been helpful to me really.

we aren’t in an urban area but actually we live just outside the city, so suburban but seriously, I feel so upset right now. I just wish someone has this same experience and everything is fine with them.

I had 2 chinese a while back. They weren't louder than my 2 africans that I have now. But yes, go check with your neighbors if you are really worried. My neighbors seem to be fine with it currently, and my africans are probably louder than my old chinese, but they are really sweet. If you spend a bunch of time with them when they are babies, they will be calemer and therefore quieter. Mine only start honking when I am away for a long period of time.

You should make sure they are allowed in any HOW's and tell your neighbors before they're suddenly making noise everywhere
Yes, we do not have any regulations on geese where we live, and actually the neighbors next to us have a chicken, duck, and turkey. But still geese are louder. Thank you for the reply.

Thank you! This helps very much hearing other people’s experiences. I truly appreciate it, and I’m not sure 🤔 if it would make it any better for our neighbor to accept them but they have a chicken, duck and turkey so hopefully they are accepting of our new goslings. Thank you very much for the help! ☺️

And also, do you live close to your neighbors or do you have some distance between you and your neighbors?

When I had my chinese geese, there was some distance between our houses, but now we live closer. It probably will be better for your neighbor to accept your geese, because they have birds too, but if you feel comfortable during covid 19, you should introduce your goslings to your neighbors. We did that and nobody has complained, only said how cute they were. I also have chickens and pigeons. I have not heard that it is a challenge to raise them in the city because of their honking, only because of their poop. They can get quite messy! Just make sure you have a coop for them at night, and i'm sure it will be ok. I know a few people that have geese and ducks and someone that used to have peacocks(which are much louder) and it is fine.

Thank you very much for the help! I had told someone earlier today on YouTube, a goose channel I watch and they are called Pet Goose George. Anyway, I told them that we recently got goslings, and live in a suburban environment. They replied saying that we should start the sad process of rehoming them. That really ruined my day, so I wanted to get more input with this forum. It just seems like everyone who owns geese and I’ve looked at many forums, they are always so pessimistic lol. But anyway, I followed your page. Thank you very much for the help! I really appreciate it! Helps me feel better now.

I don’t know what the cc&r’s are in your neighborhood, I’ve heard some places will allow hens but not rooseters, I know roosters can be loud but honestly I think those rules are put in place by people who have never been around chickens because “the egg song” hens do isn’t exactly unnoticeable.
I know of one family on insta that sadly had to rehome their goose because they found out geese were banned by the community when their neighbors made a stink about it, they were allowed dogs, ducks, and hens but not geese. I get geese aren’t the quietest, but neither are barking dogs, or cockatoos, or demented children. Sadly there is a lot of hypocrisy in the world.

If it puts you more at ease the others who said you should talk to your neighbors are right, if they’re fine with it I doubt you’ll have issues regardless of cc&rs, and considering your neighbor has a turkey they sound like the right sort of people. Bird people are the only sane people.😂
