URGENT PLEASE HELP

Today both chicks can fly! They can fly from my desk to the back of the chair and back!

The younger chick that had so many problems is now the healthiest one!

The pox has not spread. How long does it take for the pox spots to dry up and fall off? They look disgusting!

At least now I know they won't die.

Oh, how wonderful!

Your young pigeons are through the worst of the pox, and their system should simply be healing now. Those ugly pox nodules will begin to fall off when the pigeons have healed and when their skin has repaired itself enough - this varies from pigeon to pigeon depending on how quickly the bird heals, but could take between 3 and 5 weeks from when the pigeon first showed signs of external pox lesions.

It is safe to say that 6-7 weeks after the first pox lesions have appeared the pigeons should be past the sickness, healed, and non-contagious to other birds. They can still be somewhat contagious to other birds right now though, so for the mean time it would be best to continue keeping them away from the rest of your birds and maintaining sanitary procedures with their supplies, bedding, food/water dishes and with handling the pigeons themselves to keep the remainder of the virus contained.

Glad to hear they are recovering so well under your care - I wish them a speedy recovery!

Hi Faith,
Thank you for all your help and advise regarding my pigeon chicks

. It was hard work but now they are fully able to eat and drink, fly and enjoy their independence! Here are a few photos of them now.
This is the biggest chick. He got the Pox the worst - some inside his beak. You can just see the last ones are drying up nicely. There is one on top of his beak and one on the side of his beak.

This was the smaller chick that had all the problems with air in its crop. Then slow crop, Then the Pox! She is now is 100% healthy and no pox lesions!!!! She is also the boss of the 2.

They are best of friends and love preening each other. Here there are hanging out on my house roof. They can fly really well now.

I have decided to keep them as pets. I will let them live free in my garden - I am building a wooden box for them to roost in that I will attach to the side of my house. If they ever want to leave they can. Its a miracle they survived. Thank you again Faith.

What beautiful young pigeons! They look like they are recovering nicely and look so happy and well cared for. They are such lucky and blessed birds to have found such a caring person such as yourself!

Just a note on their outdoor box which you are building for them: Your pigeons would enjoy as big of a box shelter/loft that you can make for them - possibly a 3' by 3' by 4' high box with a door which can be latched shut on really stormy days (or at night if you have nocturnal predators or cats in the area) and adequate ventilation but not too much where it is drafty on colder days would be highly recommended for their comfort and safety. Pigeons do not normally thrive as well as doves in a free-range garden setting with a very small sheltered roosting and nesting spot, partially because of nocturnal predators and partially because they may not have enough room in their roosting spot to feel comfortable hanging out there for a while when it is cold and stormy outside. If they end up sitting outside or seeking other larger sheltered areas during bad weather, they can get too cold or wet and get sick with something.

A good-sized box shelter/loft which gives them enough room to feel comfortable and safe in would make them feel most welcome. And if one of them decided to bring home a mate they would have enough room to build a nest in their little loft!

Thank you very much for sharing the pictures, and best of luck with your new pigeon friends
