I all,

I have new bantam chick which cannot stand up. It's mum seems to have neglected it. I brought it in to keep it warm. It is eating and drinking and very alert but cannot stand up. It seems to be sitting on its bum and walking with its legs out front and not at sides. I had a spraddle leg chick last year and the forum helped me resolve this issue. However, this one seems different. Can anyone advise what I should do - I have been trying to get it to stand up with me holding it under its body and trying to stretch down its legs so it can use them. It is only just over one day old.

If you need a photo please let me know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a small cup that you can put something non-slip in the bottom and place the chick in it to force it to stand? I have tried this with sugar bowls, etc, to find the right size. I have heard others say it has worked, but my chick was brain-damaged and died.

Thank you for your help. I have been cupping her in my hand with her legs dangling below on a regular basis last night and this morning. The chick seems to be able now to stand for periods of time normally and then falls back again. It does however managed to get itself back up. I will keep trying this when not at work and hopefully it will help. It is eating and drinking normally. I hope I can introduce it back to its mum and other chicks without any problems.

I will keep you posted on its progress.

To all who replied to my post. I can confirm that the little chick is now back with its mum and the other 5 chicks running around, eating etc. and doing well.

Many thanks
