Urgent question about red sack protuding from chick abdomen

Yes, if it is the yolk sack it should go into her tummy. How big is the pink thing? It kinda worries me because the navel can close leaving you unable to push the intestines back in, but it really sounds like you are just describing the...well, I don't suppose it is called the umbilical cord in chickies, but the network of blood vessels that connects the yolk sack to her body.

I would try to tie it off as close to the body as you can and then treat it with Iodine, most of the time it's bacteria that enters through the area that kills the chick. I wouldn't hold much hope though.

The intestines look like little noodles and if that is them then there should be a loop but you will have to look real close to see it.

A chicken does have an umbilicle cord of sorts that connect it to the web of veins in the shell. I hope that is what you are seeing.

Is she still bleeding? It doesn't sound liek that is her intestines so you should be fine there. If she isn't bleeding I would leavve it alone. I disagree...if she has made it this long, is no longer bleeding, and possibly drinking, I think there is hope.

Oh, I meant to add, try just dripping the water along the side of her beak. It is very easy to drown baby birds.

In the past I have taken a paper towell and stuck a small piece to the area to keep the chick from drying and sticking to the wire in the bator. Like you would do a shaving cut. Even if it's not bleeding it is moist and as it dries it will stick to whatever surface the chick is laying on.

I can't tell if she's still bleeding. The sack seems drier but redder. As it dries, it seems smaller but that could be just an illusion.

Is the yolk sack then like a placenta?
