URGENT~ SOFT SHELLED EGGS AND A LETHARGIC DUCK!!!

Pics
I was going to give her the shots at home but the vet showed my how and I would be scared to mess up or hurt her so I have been taking her to a vet about 15 minutes away twice a day to get her shots. We just have one in about an hour and a half and then the one I morrow morning then that's it!!! :). I am going to keep her inside until Saturday mor Inge though, just to be safe ;)

I have a couple questions to ask you but I have to wait a minute because I have to do something real quick. Be right back guys!

Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday!!! Time just got away from me. She is sleeping outside tonight but her cage is covered in a tarp to keep in heat and double the hay in her nest for insulation. It is supposed to get down to 42° tonight so I hope she stays warm.

You guys have been more than great. It makes me really happy to know that me and Quackers have a wonderful little family on here that loves us both so very much.

Our only question is, why isn't she eating? She hasn't hardly eaten anything today or the past week. Even now that she hasn't had antibiotics in a day now she still isn't eating. I try to feed her but she just won't eat!!! I feed her crickets which are pretty much her favorite things in the world, she puts them in her mouth but them spits them out. Why won't my girl eat?

Is there anyway to help her to get eating again?

Thanks guys!

I will guess that the antibiotics have upset her stomach a lot. Can you get her some probiotics? Maybe some plain yogurt with live cultures, a tablespoon of that in a cup of water if you cannot get probiotics from the feed store.

X2 I have heard Baytril is very hard on their tummies.

Okay, I am going to the store to get Quackers some worms and yogurt. She is sleeping again right now. Hopefully he gets eating again. How long can the battery upset her stomach? Because the last shot was on Friday morning, could that still be the cause?

The way I understand it, antibiotics kill many different kinds of bacteria, including the good bacteria in the guts. We all have them, people and ducks. And somewhere I think I read that Baytril really hits gut bacteria as well as the bad ones. Once bacteria populations have been knocked back, it takes a while for them to build back up. In the case of what's been making Quackers sick, I hope all those got killed.

I sent someone to get the yogurt and they got the Activia Greek vanilla yogurt with probiotics. Is that okay? She ate about ten worms, I am saving the rest for tonight and tomorrow.

Wow. I just read this whole thread. First I had tears of sadness and then tears of joy! I'm so glad that Quackers is doing better.

PetDuck, you have done a great job of being strong and focused on finding Quackers what she needs to get better. It can be incredibly hard to do that in the midst of such a terrifying predicament -when you can't even sleep. I've been there. I am so happy that things are looking up for Quackers.

And I am so pleased with this forum and everyone who helped this duck! What a wonderful place and people we have here.

Yes that's really good yogurt. she may not eat it plain you might have to mix some into some water and try to get her to drink it. Vanilla that has a lot of sugar in it most likely I think I'd eat it and get plain for her.
