This morning one of my precious home hatched silkies was dead when I went out. I thought it was cold as was minus ten Celsius and they're only 16weeks old although with bigger warmer hens!

Then tonight another is breathing funny, runny nose etc. cannot upload video but he is pulling head up neck straight and gasping for air.

Have given entire flock amoxicillin stat dose plus vit drops. Have brought the poorly one in for the night in a cool spare room.

What else can I do?

Please help distraught, even my hen hating husband is beside himself that one of our little fluffers is sick! I can't bear losing another one.

sounds like your doing what you can my thoughts are with you.make sure if your using a water soluble antibiotic that there drinking enough to get a good dose of antibiotic.if they are not; then I'd switch to a injectable to get the dose into the blood faster. its kinda hard sometimes when they are ill to drink as they should so keep an eye on that to make sure they are getting the antibiotic
other than that hopefully they will show improvements in a few days. good luck to you

Thank you x
He's in the spare room, his poor little nostrils are full of bogies and I've set up an olbas oil steamer on weak/low in there with him, to help clear his secretions.

I'm giving antibiotics via a dropper, I'm a nurse so I'm a little obsessive about measured doses according to weights lol
0500 tomorrow ill be out in the garden dropping meds into sleepy beaks!

In stead on Amoxicillan, I would use a anti-biotic more geared for respiratory problems. I would use Duramycin-10, this usually works on any CRD problems. You can also use Aureomycin medicated crumbles in the food for respiratory problems.

its difficult to get those things in the UK without actually taking the chucks to the vet clinic. The car really stresses them out. They do seem much better today and are all eating/drinking ok.

If not better by Saturday will have to take to the vet I suppose.

thank you for the tips
