Hi all,

I have a silkie with strange head jolts/tremors. Appears is wry neck. Just noticed today. I bought SELENIUM/VIT E GEL by Durvet. What dosage do I give and how often? The Silkie weight appx 70 grams and is 2 wks old.

I have a syringe with measurements with ml units and drps units so it would be helpful if you could give me dosage in these units OR in grams (gel tube uses grams).

Thank you! This is really sad to watch. I am a mess.

Do you have some Poultry Nutri-Drench or Poultry Cell?
For a 2 week old chick I would use those. Give 2-3 drops 2X a day.
You can also use human Vitamin E and B-Complex if you wish.
400IU vitamin E and 1/4 tablet B-Complex for a few days.
Give her a bit of scrambled egg daily as well.

I’m doing everything you recommend minus the human vitamins bc giving her vit e with selenium gel.

400iu seems like too much and she can only handle 2 droppers full of gel as we force fees it to her. That equals 200iu a day.

Is this enough?

thank you!!

I killed a baby goat giving too much selenium, so you gotta be careful with selenium.

Just give the vitamin E 400 IU, and and some B1 thiamine (in the B complex tabs or other source.) Selenium is only needed in a small amount which you can give with a small amount of scrambled egg daily. It is also found in sunflower seed and tuna. B1 thiamine is found in many foods.

I suppose I should have been more clear?
I would not use the goat vitamins - how do you know the dosage, I don't.

I made suggestions in my previous post of "known" dosing of vitamins that are commonly used for treatment of Wry Neck symptoms.
If you note - I did not mention Selenium period. Egg has sufficient Selenium for the uptake of E. Selenium in high doses are toxic to chickens, so it's best not to give "extra" as in supplementation - Selenium is in feed already and with a treat of egg, tuna or even a small amount of sunflower seeds is plenty.

No. Nutri-Drench OR the Human E and B vitamins.

IF you go with Nutri-Drench give 2 times a day. IF you use human vitamins give 1 time day.
