We are experience this exact thing with our 7 month old silkie hen named Snowball. I found her yesterday morning with a twisted neck. I tried to put her out in the run but she was stumbling around in circles, not being able to stand much. I figure it's because she can't figure out which way is up and which way is down. She is also having these fits that resemble seizures, violently flapping her wings, body shaking, jerking head, inability to stand. We are treating her with a vitamin e/selenium gel, along with nutri drench. We added crushed garlic and apple cider vinegar to her water because she has been having diarrhea and I'm questioning possible vent gleet, even though her vent looks fine, she has dried yellow-ish loose poop stuck to her underside. I'm thinking that the diarrhea caused a vitamin deficiency, causing wry neck. I'm also feeding her some plain Greek yogurt to help with whatever is upsetting her digestive system. I'm so scared foe her though because a month ago we lost a 5 month old chicken to a combination of things(vent gleet. Reproductive tract disease, heart problem and some kind of systemic bacterial infection). We know this because we spent a bunch of money for a necropsy, but the final results haven't come in telling us what bacteria caused the infection. I'm so scared that Snowball could be being affected by the same bacteria. We have no vet's around that treat chickens, so I'm just doing my best with what I could find online. How did your chicken turn out? Did she get better? I'll try to attach a video I took of Snowball's last episode.Hello all.
Our 1 year old rhode island hen Piggy was acting strange around two days ago (stargazing, violent head turning), and after researching symptoms, we were certain it is wry neck. We have been treating her with mixable supplements for her water that include many vitamins and have been giving her a small dosage of vitamin e since then. This morning, she was doing better than usual, we have been letting her walk around outside and she seemed to enjoy it more than being in the dogcrate inside our garage with the fan on her. This afternoon in her crate, she began to flap her wings violently and she couldn't seem to stand on her feet. Our instant reaction was to move her inside with the AC and place her in a crate, and when we first put her in there, she was what seemed like having a seizure (flapping her wings, jerking her head, not being able to stand) She actually calmed down and layed down after a few times of going through a spasm, and is still laying down. She is completley relaxed and is sleeping, but we are so confused as to how she is even still fighting through and why this behavior is happening. A vet is being considered but as you probably know, it can get pretty pricey. I hope you all can help me as we hold our chickens dear to heart.
Edit: She also hasn't been sleeping too much, and I know seizures can be tiring, so maybe she is deprived?
