Nice article. About the neg. inputs..Have you noticed it seems like most people enjoy being neg.? They really don't think or know anything before they say something neg. It's like that is all they know. It easier to be for people to be neg. than to praise any one. I really enjoyed the article and I love BYC and I also e-mailed it to a lot of family members. I'm sure they enjoyed the article too!!

That is an absolutely great article! We and the chickens are the future!!! I live on a fairly busy road on one acre of land zoned agricultural and my lead rooster walks up close to the road and crows at the cars as they drive by. Hilarious!!!

the sad thing is the richy rich people are against raising chickens .they can go out and buy the expensive foods. if they had to live like us middle class people theyd now what its like to raise your own food . thats just my opoinion i welcome yours.

That is one issue, but you also have middle class people who don't want to be reminded of their rural roots who also protest chickens. Then there are some people that are just jerks no matter what their income

With 20,000+ members, I think it's pretty obvious we're going to find people from every demographic here on BYC who enjoy raising chickens. That's the cool thing; raising chickens is something that bridges differences and brings people together. We can focus on what makes us alike, rather than what divides us.

Nifty's doing a great job of spreading the word about BYC to people all over the country; it's the members' job once people sign up to welcome them and make them feel like they're part of the community. You guys are a huge part of what makes BYC what it is.

So spread that BYC spirit!

By the way, I'm not sure I posted in your introduction post.

See you around the forum!

Fabulous article!!!! I spent the past 2 hours reading comments good and bad. All i can say about the ignorant comments is.... (in the great words of i believe it was jeff foxworthy) "Ya can't fix stupid".

I'm wondering when we will start feeling pressure from the egg business folks. I've no doubt they're going to start feeling their business starting to drop - I wonder if they will just let it go, or if they'll start trying to prevent folks from getting/keeping chickens.

Imagine how much business they've lost just in the last year with all the new chicken folk we've seen on BYC.

For every enlightened one of us, there are at least two fools out there that think store eggs are 'better'.

And then there's my oldest kid, who doesn't want to know the butt her egg came out of. We still have to buy eggs for her

Rob, I have been advertizing my extra roos and got a call from someone who's parents butchered when they were kids and they decided they were going to try it. I told her to go to byc and check out and then I sent them links to butchering from byc. I talked to her a long time about byc on the phone. They plan on getting their first chickens after the learn to build a coop (here is where I put another plug in for byc ha ha) she plans on checking out the byc site when she gets home from work. So hopefully, we will have new members who become addicted.
