Using a Dog to Find Eggs

I'd also say if you pup did break an egg it would prob only happen once, can't imagine they'd like the taste.

EVERYTHING likes the taste of eggs. Eggs are delicious = a universal truth. I have yet to meet a dog or cat that doesn't love eggs.
Not to mention wildlife, chickens will eat their own eggs and once they realize that, can't be broken of the habit - heck, I once saw one of my dairy goats eat an egg that was laid in the hay rack!

If you ever doubt this, go ahead and crack an egg into your dog's food dish.
CAUTION: Don't let them see you crack it. Seriously. For a bunch of them, realizing "Oh, that's what's in there!!" is all it takes. I'm not joking

EVERYTHING likes the taste of eggs.

My goats won't touch them, not even the shell, 1 goat will eat poison ivy other won't touch it, one will each kudzu other won't, but neither of them will touch an egg and my chickens lay in their hay house. Out of my 3 dogs (even the one that carries them in her mouth) not a single one has eaten a raw egg. That is what my animals do, my ducks and Guineas will eat the chicken eggs when they are already broken.

However, my dogs do love a good scrambled egg ;)

Just like people we all have different tastes and likes and dislikes.

Then you fellows happen to have the dogs who are the exception to the rule - or have never offered them a raw egg or seen them eat one in the yard.
All the same, it is irresponsible to tell people that dogs wont eat raw eggs because they don't like the taste, that is untrue.

As far as your other critters not eating eggs, maybe they do and maybe they haven't, but the fact is they WOULD if the circumstances were right. To back that up, I don't know of a single older livestock text that doesn't suggest "mash with an egg in it" to entice the appetite of and give a boost of energy to sick or run-down livestock. It was (and still is for a lot of folks) such a common practice that it was even mentioned more than once in Black Beauty, when that unluckiest of horses was sick or hurt.

She's an AmStaff/Cane Corso...I think that job would be best for a retriever type that's bred to hold delicate things gently. I'm curious as to how successful people have been training their dogs to track down the eggs though?

I have a full Cane Corso. He has the softest mouth ever, and can be completely trusted around the chickens. He shares his treats with them sometimes, and they can all be found eating together.

He can also find a egg anywhere...but does not bring them back. He eats them. Anywhere he finds one. He has even been known to go in the coop, sit quietly and very nicely, and wait for the hen to get off the nest and then eat her freshly laid egg.

If you have a Corso then you already know about the death gas. Do not let that dog eat the eggs. LOL You will literally pray for death.

I didn't know you knew my dogs so well, all I have stated is from my experience from my dogs. Did you know my husky will not eat raw meat, she only eats her steaks cooked, saying that is untrue too? It's odd yes, but that is my dog. Also, any animal, humans included will eat ANYTHING if hungry enough and when sick, things get weird cravings, poor nutrition leads dogs to eat grass, pregnancy leads some women to eat non food items. Don't believe my ask an ob dr. I never said dogs don't eat raw eggs, I'm sure they do, I'm just saying mine do not.

Let it go here or pm me to continue this debate.

If properly trained yes the right dog can track eggs in my opinion, why do they track and retrieve ducks for hunters and not eat them? That is the purpose for this thread, get back on track please. With the proper training and dog with the right temperament/intelligence there isn't much a dog can't do.
