Using Apple Cider Vinegar

Quote:
I use the one tablespoon per gallon rule and my girls drink it up the same as if it had no ACV in it.
So I guess it's not very noticable, at least at that dilution rate.

I also use 1 tablespoon per gallon and I use it every time. Once in a while dh will do the watering and I don't worry about him adding it. I figure once in a while without it won't hurt them.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe ACV has several uses in both human and animal kind. It is thought that when someone is sick or I'll, there is a pH imbalance that needs righted and ACV supposedly is able to help the body restor that acid versus base situation, though it has no impact on actually killing or overcoming any bacterial or viral infections. If I'm not mistaken, it has a healthy dose of vitamins, too.

I LOVE vinegar. It makes my mouth watering just thinking about it! My MIL uses ACV whenever she feels unwell or feels a cold coming on. She swears by it but I'm not convinced. Although, I add it to my water now and then knowing it has balancing properties to it.

As for me, I just add a splash of vinegar to my chickens water every time I refill it. I'm also told the vinegar causes the chickens to drink more than they normally do and this can help a lot in the warmer months.

I use ACV with the 'mother' in it for all my waterers for all my animals. I do not measure accurately - no need to. I put 'about' a TBS per gallon, more or less. Chickens are not going to get drunk or anything. It is not going to hurt them if you put a bit more in.

The primary reason is that it keeps plastic waterers from growing algae. It will damage metal waterers eventually. If it works like others claim, that is fine too. I have noticed no more eggs. I would say it does help keep the insides of the chickens clean- at the very least it seems beneficial.

YMMV
