Using cedar shavings for bedding.

I have heard of using cedar shavings for bedding, but have gotten differing opinions. So is this a good idea? Seems like it would be, but want to be sure

I've never heard/read that cedar is something used for chickens because the aroma of it is too strong for them and can cause respiratory issues which can result in death.

There's all kinds of information out there saying that you should *not* use cedar shavings. Maybe it's all old wives' tales but I figure with the decent price and availability of pine shavings, why take a chance?

You can read for yourself.... there is some confusion about that subject.... I opt to NOT use cedar.... my chickens are too valuable to take any chances...
