Just thought I would talk about my experience using Claude from Anthropic to build an app to track my chickens. I just typed in what I wanted (fields, summaries, etc.) and within less than 15 minutes it had written the app, complete with simple graphics and a color scheme. I then typed in how I wanted to change it. For example, I keep track of egg weights in grams, not ounces, and it changed that field upon request. But without me even having to explain which egg weight equaled medium vs. large, Claude already had figured it out. I've spent a couple hours tweaking it, and it does not seem difficult at all. I think anyone could do this just as easily, and you would get a program designed with exactly the fields you want.

When you're done, you can "publish artifact" which gives you a URL link to share with others. Everyone's data is kept separate, and the data and program would run off Anthropic's site. Or, you can download it and with some added steps, run it on your own personal computer and store the data there. I didn't get the directions for how to use on the phone because I keep apps to a minimum there, but I know you can change it to a phone app.

Uh oh. I'm playing with this idea with ChatGPT, and I made it jealous lol. I've used ChatGPT for graphics mostly, so it knows what I'm doing in BYC.

No, I used the free version! But that's just scary/weird that ChatGPT picked up on this thread, and claimed they had a better version when they don't even know what mine does. ;) I haven't published it yet, as I'm only playing around. I'm not breeding, so I don't have hatch rates or genetics to record. But that looks like it would be comparatively simple to add if I wanted.

I kept going with it and ChatGPT said it could write the program however I want it, but it can't launch it, and suggested GitHub, free version. Well, the program wasn't 100%, so GitHub wanted to bring in the co-pilot who fixed it. Then, I found errors, the co-pilot fixed them, and when you use that co-pilot, that's premium. I wound up with a 30-day free use of it, then $100 a year after that. I sure didn't want to spend $100/year! ChatGPT says once it's running, they don't charge for just hosting it. So I'll have to figure the billing out, but it's running now. I could come up with a couple more tweaks, which while free they'll fix, so I should keep on it until it's exactly what I want.
